Outward Bound California Board Memeber
Descripción
Descripción
Outward Bound California seeks thoughtful, strategic, mission-aligned leaders to join our Board of Directors and help expand our outdoor expeditions and urban experiences that serve thousands of students each year to unlock their fuller potential. Grounded in more than 60 years of experience in outdoor education, Outward Bound staff know how to deliver programming that harnesses the power of outdoor challenge to help students believe in themselves and their abilities to problem-solve, persevere, and work with others to navigate obstacles. If you are interested in transforming young peoples' mindsets to set them up for future success wherever life takes them, join our board to help make that happen.
Board Roles & Responsibilities
Here is a snapshot of your potential role on the OBCA Board: Oversight: Develop strategic goals for the organization, steward its finances, hire and annually evaluate the Executive Director, approve the annual budget, weigh in on high-level decisions, and stay engaged in organizational matters alongside fellow board and committee members.
Meetings: Five board meetings per year, plus an annual Bay Area retreat. Serve on at least one standing committee or task force.
Fundraising: Make a personal meaningful contribution and/or activate your network in support of the annual fund. OBCA should be one of your top charitable priorities while serving on the board. 74 cents of every dollar goes directly to programs. Leadership: Advise and support OBCA staff within your area of expertise.
Ambassadorship: Champion OBCA publicly — make connections, recruit talent, and help the mission travel further than it could without you. Terms: Three-year terms, typically renewed for a total of six years, with an annual check-in on fit and engagement
We are looking for leaders who believe all California youth should have access to adventurous outdoor learning to unlock confidence, curiosity, and the skills to thrive with purpose.
We are committed to building a board that reflects the communities we serve and strongly encourage veterans, people of color, LGBTQ+ identifying individuals, and women to apply. We are actively seeking members with backgrounds in Public Education, Mental Health, and Fundraising.
