About the Role
At Vitality Hospice, we are honored to provide exceptional care, therapeutic support, and a compassionate presence to patients and families across PA and New Jersey. We believe that no one should walk the final chapter of life alone.
We are currently seeking dedicated Patient Care Companions to support our neighbors throughout Burlington County. As a volunteer, you aren't just a visitor—you are a vital part of our Interdisciplinary Team, ensuring that patients in our community face the end of life with dignity, comfort, and friendship.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Compassionate Presence: Visit patients in their private homes or local care facilities to share a conversation, listen to music, or simply offer a supportive, quiet presence.
- Caregiver Respite: Provide a much-needed break for family caregivers, allowing them the time to rest or attend to personal needs while knowing their loved one is in safe hands.
- Social Connection: Help with small "legacy" projects, read aloud, or simply be a friend to someone who may be experiencing social isolation.
- Team Collaboration: Act as an essential link for the hospice team by documenting your visits, helping us ensure we are meeting the patient’s emotional and social needs.
Why Volunteer in Burlington County?
- Community Connection: Serve the residents of your own county and make a tangible difference close to home.
- Flexible Commitment: Whether you have a few hours a week or a few hours a month, we work with your schedule to find the right fit.
- Full Support: You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing mentorship from our clinical staff and Volunteer Coordinator.
Requirements & NJ Compliance
To ensure the highest standard of safety for our patients all volunteers must complete:
- Hospice Orientation: A free, thorough training program covering hospice philosophy, communication techniques, and patient rights.
- NJ State Background Check: All volunteers must pass a state-mandated criminal history record check.
- Medical Clearances: Documented negative TB (Tuberculosis) screening.
- Proof of immunity/vaccination for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella).
- Annual Physical
- Drug Screen
- Reliable Transportation: Ability to travel to patient locations within Burlington County.
- We will work with you to ensure you are provided assignment at a convenient location to you.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for "heart-centered" individuals with a high degree of empathy and a desire to give back. You don’t need a medical background—just a willing heart and the ability to be present for others during life’s most significant moments.
