Rental Sales Gallery Volunteer

The Rental Sales Gallery (RSG) is part of Portland Art Museum, serving as a commercial gallery space. It represents over 150 regional artists, making their works available for both rental and purchase, all of the proceeds made supporting either the artist or PAM’s overall mission.

Volunteers are essential for the success of this space, serving in a wide range of different roles and supporting the Head of RSG as required. The Gallery prides itself on being a warm, fun environment, with the opportunity to undertake a range of different duties and learn a range of new skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Providing assistance to Gallery clients in selecting, renting and purchasing artworks
• Ensuring that the artworks are displayed in Gallery in a beautiful and engaging manner
• Assisting with the administration of the Gallery
• Supporting Gallery events such as openings
• Helping deliver an outstanding visitor experience
• Assisting the Gallery staff as required with other duties as requested

REQUIREMENTS

• No prior experience of working with fine art is required
• Flexible outlook and willingness to engage with different duties as required as the needs of the Gallery will often vary from day-to-day,
• Duties can be tailored to the volunteer’s preferences and allowances made for any physical or personal needs
• If working with the artworks, then an ability to comfortably lift and move pieces of different sizes and weights would be required; assistance will be offered by Gallery staff/other volunteers if pieces cannot be safely moved or hung

TIME COMMITMENT

• Flexible, but at least one 3-hour shift every two weeks
• Shifts are 11am-2pm and 2-5pm, Tuesday - Saturday
• There is no maximum number of shifts that a volunteer can do
