Who we are – The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO) is a spay/neuter program for feral and stray cats in Oregon and SW Washington. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community through our donation-based high-quality high-volume feline spay/neuter program. Since our inception in 1995, we have helped more than 145,000 community cats lead healthier lives.
Internship overview – This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain entry-level experience working within a nonprofit organization, specifically in animal welfare. The candidate will be assisting our development team with a variety of projects and events. This unpaid internship is part-time (Tuesday-Thursday), onsite at FCCO’s clinic located at 4522 S Water Ave, Portland, OR 97239, 10-15 hours per week, with some nights and weekends for events.
You will gain:
- Applicable skills/knowledge in important areas of nonprofit management, such as donor relations, volunteer management, and special events/fundraising.
 - Direct exposure to the planning and logistics required to plan and execute a large-scale fundraising gala.
 - Fundamental experience utilizing database/CRM software.
 - Relevant skills such as teamwork and collaboration, time management, creative thinking/problem solving, logistics, and community engagement.
 
Fundraising/Special Events
- Assist with small fundraisers – help secure local business partners to host small fundraisers and assist with thanking and post-fundraiser follow-up. Additional opportunities to attend events and participate in community outreach when necessary.
 - Assist with auction item procurement and database tracking - solicit in-kind donors for auction items to be used in FCCO’s spring and winter fundraising auctions. Track donation requests and all incoming donations. Also, includes the following tasks:
- Researching new donors
 - Conducting initial outreach with new donors
 - Ensuring timely follow-up/thanks once donations are received
 - Entering each donation into FCCO’s database, ensuring that all items are accounted for within the system and that each item is properly tagged.
 - Requires attention to detail and accuracy.
 
 - Assist with management of volunteer committees - create meeting agendas, attend committee meetings, actively participate in idea sharing, take notes, and disseminate meeting notes to committee members.
 - Assist with event-related marketing and PR efforts. Research, share, and utilize new avenues for marketing/information sharing.
 - Assist with coordination of auction items/supplies.
 - Work at FCCO’s annual spring fundraising gala.
 
Database/CRM/Office duties
- Donation entry and donor acknowledgment.
 - Volunteer time tracking.
 - Assist with mailings – prepare envelopes and materials for distribution.
 - Light filing
