About Us:
The Emotional PPE Project is a volunteer-run nonprofit working to remove the barriers that keep healthcare workers from accessing mental health care. Since 2020, we've maintained a directory of therapists who offer free sessions to healthcare professionals, while also doing advocacy and research work. We've connected over 2,500 healthcare workers to date and have produced high-impact publications and talks.
Our mission is clear: to reduce barriers healthcare workers face in seeking, accessing, or receiving emotional and mental health support. Our vision is a world where healthcare workers utilize mental and emotional health support without any hesitation or worry.

Why Join Us?
Address a Critical Need
Healthcare workers face unprecedented mental health challenges—burnout, PTSD, moral injury, and isolation—and yet stigma, career impact, time constraints, and limited access often prevent them from seeking help. Your expertise will reach an underserved population that desperately needs culturally competent, accessible mental health support.
Join a Mission-Driven Community
Founded in 2020, we're a volunteer-run nonprofit with the sole mission of championing healthcare worker wellbeing. Our volunteer therapists understand the barriers to help seeking and commit to helping open the door. As a therapist in our directory, you’ll be joining a dedicated community of professionals who share your commitment to supporting those who serve others.
Expand your professional impact and network
Be part of a passionate, volunteer-run 501(c)(3) that's making a national difference. Being part of our directory will also allow you access to our educational initiatives that equip mental health professionals with specialized knowledge and skills to better serve healthcare workers and their unique challenges.
Our directory was created to address the many barriers HCW face in accessing mental health care. By signing up, you are agreeing to provide at least two no cost sessions to HCW with no insurance required. In order to prioritize confidentiality and privacy, once we verify your licensure, your contact information and preferred method of contact are listed in our directory so that HCW are able to reach out to you directly to schedule your first session. Most, if not all, of our providers offer sessions via telehealth. Deciding the frequency and length of sessions is between the provider and the client. The number of sessions a provider is willing to offer will vary. The number of sessions a HCW is interested in will vary. These are things we encourage providers to discuss with a client prior to the first session. We ask that you fill out a report when you are 1) contacted by a potential client via this site and 2) after you complete your first session. No personal information about clients should ever, in any circumstances be included in your reports. The reports are merely what help us monitor usage and understand how to improve our services.
