    About Good Works Hub

Good Works Hub is a faith-based non-profit dedicated to cultivating happy, healthy, and wholesome communities that are more resilient, resourceful, and equitable. We believe in the power of faith, research, art, and action to transform communities.

    Position Overview

Good Works Hub seeks a Volunteer Research Assistant to join a collaborative team conducting a Rapid Literature Review using Logeny, our AI-supported knowledge synthesis platform. The project explores how the presence (or absence) of school health personnel—including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and School Health Assistants—affects student outcomes in primary and secondary (K–12) education settings.

A special emphasis will be placed on equity analysis, examining whether disparities in school health staffing are associated with differences in educational, health, and social outcomes across race, income, disability status, and other social determinants of health.

    Refined Research Question

How does the presence, type, and distribution of school health personnel (e.g., RNs, LPNs, and health assistants) in K–12 education settings influence student health, educational, and social outcomes — and how do these effects vary across demographic and socioeconomic groups?

This question may also evolve into sub-questions, such as:

    • What is the relationship between school nurse coverage and student absenteeism, academic performance, and chronic disease management?
    • How do differences in staffing models (RN-led vs. health assistant-led) impact equity in educational or health outcomes?
    • Are schools serving low-income, racially minoritized, or high-need populations less likely to have access to qualified school health personnel?

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct a Rapid Literature Review using Logeny and other databases (PubMed, ERIC, Google Scholar, etc.)
    • Synthesize evidence regarding associations between school health staffing and student outcomes
    • Apply an equity lens to identify patterns or disparities across demographic groups
    • Assist in data organization, reference management, and citation tracking
    • Participate in weekly team check-ins with the PI and other research assistants
    • Contribute to drafting an internal Research Brief or Policy Memo summarizing findings

    Ideal Candidate

    • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Public Health, Education, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field
    • Strong research and writing skills, with an interest in health equity and education systems
    • Familiarity with academic databases and citation management tools
    • Interest in using AI-assisted literature review tools
    • Self-motivated, organized, and collaborative

    Benefits

    • Gain experience conducting real-world research with practical policy implications
    • Learn to use Logeny, a next-generation AI-powered knowledge hub
    • Receive mentorship from experienced researchers and community leaders
    • Be acknowledged in publications, briefs, or presentations resulting from the project
    • Opportunity to continue on future Good Works Hub research teams
