Emergency department volunteers are often the first contact with visitors and patients and enhance the patient and visitor experience in the ED by making a positive impression and set the right tone for patients and visitors, helping them to feel at ease with navigating around the hospital.
Primary objectives of the volunteer are to provide information and support to families and visitors in the ED waiting room, locating patient rooms and escorting as needed. The ED patient Ambassador proactively seeks opportunities to render assistance to patients and visitors with kindness and compassion.
Volunteers must be comfortable with the sights, sounds and smells of a trauma and emergency medicine environment and be kind, polite, diplomatic, helpful, and able to work independantly and with a team. The volunteer must be able to stand on their feet for long periods of time, work in a fast paced environment, run errands, and feel comfortable working in an emergency room setting dealing with confidential information with great finesse.
In addition to assisting patients and visitors, volunteers may be required to assist staff in the ED by helping restock comfort items such as blankets in blanket warmers, tidy up rooms, refresh supplies in patient rooms and fill supply carts as needed and other duties as requested by staff.
This is a great opportunity for both college students and recent retirees.
