    TGIA Volunteer Board Member - Director of Education

    Director of Education (Volunteer Position)

    Organization: Talented Girls in Action (TGIA)

    Location: Charlotte, NC (with hybrid or remote participation as needed)

    Reports to: Executive Director / Board of Directors

    Time Commitment: 3 to 5 hours/month, with flexibility during special events or project planning

    About Talented Girls in Action (TGIA):

    TGIA is a nonprofit organization focused on empowering middle school girls through project-based learning, STEAM education, financial literacy, leadership development, and career readiness. We partner with schools to deliver high-impact programming that closes opportunity gaps for girls in underserved communities.

    Position Summary:

    The Director of Education will play a key strategic and advisory role in shaping the curriculum, instructional goals, and overall educational impact of TGIA programs. This volunteer role is ideal for a current or retired Principal, Vice Principal, or Superintendent who is passionate about educational equity, STEAM, and mentoring the next generation of young women leaders.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide expert oversight and feedback on TGIA's curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials, ensuring they meet high standards of academic rigor and relevance.
    • Collaborate with TGIA leadership to align educational programming with district and state learning goals.
    • Advise on best practices for instructional design, assessment, and student engagement.
    • Support the development of educator training workshops and professional development tools.
    • Help build partnerships with local schools and district leaders to expand TGIA’s presence and influence.
    • Serve as a thought leader and advocate for educational innovation and equity in TGIA’s strategic planning.
    • Attend quarterly board meetings and provide updates on program outcomes and recommendations.
    • Assist in monitoring program impact through student performance data, feedback, and assessment results.

    Qualifications:

    • Current or former school or district administrator (Principal, Vice Principal, Superintendent, or similar leadership role)
    • Strong background in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and program evaluation
    • Passion for mentoring, youth development, and equitable access to education
    • Knowledge of STEAM curriculum, project-based learning, or financial literacy is a plus
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
    • Ability to commit to a flexible volunteer schedule and engage remotely or in-person as needed
