Donation Processing Volunteer with the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, Chardon, OH

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:

1. Greet donors at the door. Some donors are pleasant or are regulars, but some may be donating because they have recently lost a loved one, so sensitivity is important in this role. Knowing what we do and don't accept and screening items at the door is also a key function.
2. Sort donations into appropriate areas. We have staging areas for clothing, housewares, art, and holidays. We must keep the donation are tidy for the next incoming donation, so neatly sorting items is important.
3. Lift and carry small to large objects. We get donations of just about anything, from shoes to large pieces of furniture. You are not required to lift anything you are not comfortable with, but stamina is important.
4. People person, detail-oriented, energetic, responsive

Who will be served by this assignment? Our donors will be served by having a positive donation experience, and our customers will be served by the new donations we will be able to put on the sales floor.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? We cannot do what we do for the American Cancer Society without donations, so this role is essential for making sure our store can operate and continue to raise money for the ACS.

What specific skills will the volunteer need? Stamina, lifting small to heavy objects, good hearing (doorbell), turning and bending, crouching, standing or moving for potentially long periods.
