About Us:

A Free Bird is a nonprofit organization based in New York City dedicated to empowering children diagnosed with cancer through the healing power of the arts. We provide young artists with the opportunity to explore their creativity in areas such as music, painting, acting, writing, and animation—building confidence, purpose, and healing through expression.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and creative Animation Tutor to work directly with children exploring their interest in animation. This role is flexible and may be conducted virtually or in-person in the Bronx. As a tutor, you’ll help guide young learners through the basics (or more advanced techniques, depending on their level), while inspiring them to bring their stories to life.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one or small group animation instruction (in-person or virtually)
• Introduce tools, techniques, and workflows appropriate to the student’s skill level
• Adapt lessons to each child's interests, goals, and pace
• Provide encouragement, technical guidance, and creative support
• Submit light documentation or feedback on session progress to the program team

Qualifications:

• Preferred: 2+ years of experience in animation (teaching, freelance, or professional)
• Familiarity with animation software or platforms (e.g., Adobe Animate, Blender, Toon Boom, etc.)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Degree or certification in animation or a related creative field is a plus
