Volunteer Board Member at The Henry Nehrling Society Inc. DBA Nehrling Gardens

In 1885, Dr. Henry Nehrling, one of Florida’s pioneer horticulturists and naturalists, purchased 65 acres in central Florida in the newly settled German-American town of Gotha to develop one of Florida’s first tropical gardens. An early conservationist, Nehrling wrote in 1904, "It is high time to protect and preserve what is still left." The Mission of the Henry Nehrling Society is to preserve Dr. Nehrling’s historic home and gardens in Gotha, Florida, and to educate, inspire and create awareness about the intrinsic value of Florida's horticultural history, of its plants and birds, and of the community's cultural heritage; and to assist in the conservation and protection of natural resources in Central Florida.

We are looking for additional board members who are passionate about nature, giving back to the community while preserving history and establishing accessible green spaces for all.

General Requirements:

• Support The Henry Nehrling Society’s mission, purposes, goals, governance policies, and programs, while knowing its strengths and needs.
• Attend monthly board meetings.
• Serve actively on a board committee.
• Attend activities and events supporting The Henry Nehrling Society’s mission and goals.

Qualifications:

• Basic computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft and Google products.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Motivation to bring ideas to the table that will benefit Nehrling Gardens and the community.
• We are looking for board members with diverse experience and background. However, special attention will be given to candidates with experience in Marketing, Fundraising or Grant Writing.
