    Position Overview

    The Economic Justice Fellow will examine how defense spending affects domestic economic policies and contributes to inequality by diverting resources from social programs. This role will involve policy research, data analysis, and advocacy work to make the case for reducing military budgets and investing in people. The fellow will contribute to PEP’s reports, articles, and legislative advocacy efforts, supporting movements for economic redistribution.

    This opportunity is ideal for graduate students, recent graduates, or upper-level undergraduates with a background in economics, public policy, political science, or social justice advocacy.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Analyze the impact of military budgets on domestic spending, including healthcare, housing, and education.

    Research and compare defense spending with social welfare investments in the U.S. and other nations.

    Develop policy briefs and reports advocating for military budget reductions and economic reallocation.

    Monitor Congressional budget proposals and their effects on economic justice policies.

    Assist in data visualization and storytelling, making complex budget issues accessible to the public.

    Write articles, blog posts, and op-eds highlighting how military spending contributes to economic inequality.

    Collaborate with advocacy groups and coalitions focused on social spending priorities.

    Support public education efforts, including webinars, social media campaigns, and community outreach.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Background in economics, public policy, political science, or a related field.

    ✔ Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills.

    ✔ Ability to write clear, compelling, and well-researched policy documents and advocacy materials.

    ✔ Passion for economic justice, budget transparency, and anti-militarism.

    ✔ Experience working with data, charts, and economic analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, R, or Python) is a plus.

    ✔ Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment.
