Qualifications and Expectations
Role Overview
This role is not for the camera shy. The Public Information Officer represents the organization to the outside world and helps maintain public engagement with our mission. The ideal candidate is comfortable speaking publicly, confident on camera, and capable of translating field activity into clear updates that keep communities informed and invested in the work being done.
During deployments, the PIO helps the public see the impact of the volunteers on the ground. During blue sky periods, they help maintain visibility and momentum so that when disaster strikes, the community already knows who Grounded Boots Relief is and what we do.
Instructions for Interested Volunteers
Interested applicants should submit a brief introduction outlining their interest in the role and any relevant experience in communications, media, marketing, or public engagement. Please include a resume and links to any examples of on-camera work, public speaking, interviews, social media content, or other media appearances if available.
Applicants should also confirm their willingness to complete ICS 100, ICS 200, and the PIO Awareness Course if not already certified. Availability to assist with regular updates during blue sky periods and potential deployments within our 250 mile response range should be noted.
Qualified applicants may be invited for a short conversation to discuss experience, communication style, and alignment with the mission of Grounded Boots Relief.
