    Descripción

    As a Pharmacy intern in Ghana, you'll gain practical skills, real hands-on experience in pharmacies and dispensaries as you shadow or work alongside trained and qualified pharmacist in hospitals, and private healthcare facilities. Interns help to provide medicines, informations, and counselling to patients in pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and private healthcare centres including educating patients about the importance of medications compliance.

    This internship program offers meaningful opportunity to build your pharmacy skills while contributing to healthcare access in communities we serve. SMWEF Ghana Pharmacy internship is available throughout the year with flexible start dates duration.

    This program is ideal for suitable for college/university students at various levels of their relevant medical/healthcare studies, as well as recent graduates or first year undergraduates ( fresh pharmacy graduates needing mandatory licensure training, as well as international students, pre-health volunteers and professionals seeking global health experience).

    Roles & Responsibilities as a Pharmacy Intern in Ghana

    1. Providing basic pharmaceutical counselling to patients
    2. Assisting with stock management and inventory records
    3. Educating patients on medications compliance
    4. Supporting day to day dispensary operations
    5. Assisting in community outreach programs in underserved communities we serve.

    This internship program will give you a deeper understanding of the healthcare system in rural areas and semi-rural communities of Ghana.

    Interns participating in this program will engage in a very impactful and meaningful work experience focused on pharmacy and dispensary in hospitals, clinics, and private healthcare facilities. Interns begin the day with a wonderful sense of purpose arriving at the hospital or clinic facilities, getting ready to contribute to the essential services provided by the facility.

    Interns will work alongside qualified and experienced pharmacists. Each intern role is important whether you are directly involved in patients support, prescribing medicine, counselling etc to patients.

    Participants participate approximately 5-6 hours, 5 days per week depending on the work load available at pharmacy, hospital or clinic. This intern schedule is flexible and may change depending on the activities by the hospital and community needs such as weather conditions, outreach programs etc.

    Afternoons are free for interns to explore the local community, go for shopping at the supermarkets, visit the beach for a fun-filled activities. Weekends are free for interns to travel around to tour attraction sites in Ghana with other SMWEF Ghana interns and volunteers.

    • Interns/volunteers on this program must be 18 years and above on the program start date and duration (under age interns must have their parents consent by contact SMWEF Ghana either via telephone or email before we can offer them placement).
    • Fluent in English
    • Interns must have at least a high school educational background.
    • No prior requirement is required for this program, but pharmacy placement interns must have relevant pharmacy training and certification or should be currently studying pharmacy.
    • Must be able to adapt to the environment and be flexible to learn and experience the culture in Ghana.
