Event Volunteer Opportunities

What: Community event: Voz, Recuerdos y Cempasúchil

When: November 7th, 2026 any time between 10:00am and 7:30pm

Where: 44th Street (b/w 5th and 6th Avenues) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn

About: The event honors the connection with our ancestors and the cultural traditions that have been passed on from one generation to the next. The program for the event includes community theater, a photograph exhibit and literary contest. The event is also an opportunity for Sunset Park street vendors to sell their hand-made products and food.

Volunteer opportunities

• Help set the Día de Muertos offering: You will be guided by Cristina, a woman from Puebla who has carried this tradition from her family. You’ll have to arrive at 10:00am when we’ll start setting up the exhibit.
• Help set up a photograph exhibit: We’re having a Dia de Muertos photograph contest. We’ll set up a photograph exhibit with photos of contest participants. You’ll learn how to do a mobile exhibit. You’ll have to arrive at 10:00am when we’ll start setting up the exhibit.
• Message booth assistant: We are going to set up a “phone booth” for people to leave messages to their loved ones who have passed away. You’ll guide people using some prompts so they can leave a message. Warning this can bring up strong emotions.
• Event assistant: The event includes food and crafts sales. We need volunteers who can go around booths to check with vendors and ensure they have everything thye need. You’ll have the chance to meet vendors.
• Voces’ table assistant: We need you to support us at our table where we’ll be giving information about our work, distributing books, and signing people up for our mailing list. You’ll have the opportunity to meet our wonderful staff!
• Greeting assistants: We need volunteers to greet families attending the event, directing them to the various stations of the event. You’ll have a chance to meet Sunset Park families and who knows, you may make some friends.

We’ll have an optional Zoom meeting for all the volunteers to meet the organizing committee, learn about their role and other logistics. If you cannot make this meeting, we’ll guide you through tasks the day of the event.
