The Salvation Army Fond du Lac
Volunteer Opportunities for Adults 55+
Through the ADVOCAP AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Program, adults age 55 and older have the opportunity to serve their community through meaningful volunteer roles with The Salvation Army. The RSVP Program provides support to volunteers in their service assignments.
Annual Volunteer Opportunities
May – Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
2nd Saturday in May
Approximately 25 volunteers are needed to assist with this community-wide food drive.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Riding along with postal workers in the morning to collect food donations
- Sorting and organizing donations at The Salvation Army during the afternoon
June – August – Brown Bag Lunch Program
Every Thursday during summer break
Volunteers are needed to help prepare lunches for local children while school is out.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- 10–15 volunteers to make and pack lunches beginning at 9:00 AM
- 4 teams of 2 volunteers to deliver lunches to distribution sites at 11:15 AM
August – Back to School Late Distribution
Week following the Fond du Lac Back to School distribution
2 volunteers are needed during 3 shifts throughout the week to:
- Assist families with school supply distribution
- Help clients locate and receive needed supplies
October – December – Coat & Toy Collection
Dedicated volunteers are needed to:
- Deliver collection boxes to community locations
- Pick up donated coats and toys as boxes fill
Drivers with reliable transportation are especially helpful for this opportunity.
November – Coats for Kids
First Saturday in November
Volunteer needs include:
- 10–15 volunteers for morning shifts
- 10–15 volunteers for afternoon shifts
- 5–10 volunteers for each of 3 setup shifts during the week prior to the event
Volunteers assist with setup, organization, and distribution.
November – December – Red Kettles
Daily between 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Volunteers are needed to ring bells at 10 community kettle locations.
- Flexible 2-hour shifts
- Online sign-up available
December – Bucket Brigade
Usually the first Friday in December | 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Volunteers help collect donations by:
- Ringing bells near the radio station and fire station
- Working in 2-hour shifts
December – Christmas Set Up & Distribution
Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds
This large annual event requires:
- 20–30 volunteers daily during setup week
- Approximately 30 volunteers for morning distribution shifts
- Approximately 30 volunteers for afternoon distribution shifts
Volunteers assist with setup, organization, and helping families during distribution.
