AAACC is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to support our programs, exhibitions, and events. We are a community-focused arts and cultural center in San Francisco’s historic Fillmore District, celebrating and uplifting Black art, creativity, and community through exhibitions, workshops, and cultural programming for all ages.
We have a new exhibition opening February 19 featuring the work of Emory Douglas, on view through October. We are especially looking for volunteers who are excited to help lead tours and engage guests with this powerful show.
Volunteers may support one role or multiple roles, depending on interest and comfort.
Volunteer Roles
Gallery Guide / Visitor Engagement Volunteer
Our highest-need role. Gallery Guides help lead short tours, share key talking points, and connect visitors to the art, history, and mission of AAACC.
Welcome Desk Volunteer
Serve as the first point of contact for guests by greeting visitors, sharing basic information, and helping create a warm and welcoming environment.
Arts Programming Support Volunteer
Assist with event setup, guest check-in, light logistics, and helping shared spaces stay organized and ready for community use.
What Volunteers Can Expect
Volunteers receive an orientation, building walkthrough, and talking points. During shifts, staff provide support, and volunteers have opportunities to engage with artists, visitors, and the community while serving as cultural ambassadors in a historic San Francisco arts hub. Light snacks are available during shifts.
Shifts
Shifts are 2–4 hours on weekdays and weekends, based on volunteer availability.
Compensation & Benefits
This is an unpaid opportunity. Volunteers gain hands-on experience in an arts and cultural environment and receive AAACC swag as a thank you.
At this time, AAACC volunteer roles are available to individuals 18 years of age and older.
