Deputy Director Position
Land Together (LT) is seeking a full-time Deputy Director. Our ideal candidate is a seasoned nonprofit leader with experience in complex, multi-site environments; a systems thinker who can translate strategy into action; and a relational leader skilled at cultivating trust, developing people, and stewarding organizational change.
Who We Are
Founded in 2002, Land Together is one of the only organizations in the country working at the intersection of environmental justice and criminal justice system reform. Through in-prison and reentry programs and services, coalition-building, and advocacy initiatives, LT brings people together to cultivate justice and belonging by nurturing deep connections to nature, self, and community for people impacted by mass incarceration.

Position Overview
The Deputy Director is a core member of the Executive Leadership Team and the Executive Director’s primary thought partner in guiding organizational strategy through shared decision-making. They will work closely with a seasoned leadership team and are supported by finance and operations staff.
The Deputy Director provides strategic oversight across departments, drives cross-team alignment, and supports a values-rooted organizational culture grounded in equity, healing, accountability, and collaboration. This role holds significant responsibility for translating vision into systems, structures, and practices that support staff effectiveness and organizational sustainability.

Location: This position is based in California and follows a hybrid work model, combining 80% remote work with 20% travel to meetings, conferences, and program sites.
Work is typically performed in a combination of home office, community-based, and institutional settings. The role requires flexibility to adapt to both structured office work and dynamic field environments. Occasional evening and weekend hours, as well as travel within California, are required.
