LEGACY PAWS RESCUE

Legacy Paws Rescue is a veteran-owned 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue organization based on a working property in Catawba, NC. We take in dogs that other rescues often can't — traumatized, recovering, overlooked, and in need of more than a kennel and a prayer. We rehabilitate them, love them through the hard parts, and find them the right homes.

But we don't stop there.

Legacy Paws Rescue operates at the intersection of animal rescue, child development, and community healing. Our property — which includes woodland trails, a sensory garden, creek crossings, and real terrain — serves as the backdrop for immersive outdoor experiences that bring people closer to dogs, to nature, and to each other.

We are also the birthplace of Magical Mutts — a handcrafted product line of rescue dog companions designed to teach children empathy, courage, dog safety, and emotional literacy through play. Each Magical Mutt is made by hand at our rescue facility. Every purchase directly funds our rescue operations.

Legacy Paws Rescue was founded and is run by a U.S. military veteran. The values that define this rescue — service, discipline, resilience, and an unwillingness to leave anyone behind — come directly from that experience. No dog left behind. No child overlooked. No community underserved.

We are one person, one property, and one mission. And we are just getting started.

Legacy Paws Rescue exists because one veteran looked at a broken system and decided to do something different.

We are not a large organization. We do not have a staff of twenty and a climate-controlled facility. We have one person, a working property, a deep belief that every dog deserves a real chance, and the stubbornness that comes from military service to keep going when things get hard.

The dogs that come to us are often the ones that come with a story. Dobby arrived on a roadside, emaciated and frightened, at around one year old. He is gaining weight and learning what safe feels like. Piper is trail-certified and Jeep-approved — bold and athletic and waiting for the right person to keep up with her. Every dog that has come through our doors has left a mark on this rescue and on the people who met them. We believe that animals heal people. We believe that nature heals people.

We believe that when you put a child next to a dog who has survived something hard and come out the other side — something shifts. Something opens up.

That belief is the foundation of everything we build here — from the trail experiences to the Magical Mutts product line to the Journaling is for the Dogs series to the sensory garden still taking shape across the creek.
