Mission:
Young, Black & Outside (YBO) is a community movement helping Black millennials and Gen Z reconnect with nature, each other, and themselves. Through intentional outdoor experiences, mental health awareness, and hands-on learning, we create spaces for joy, healing, and belonging.
Who We Serve:
We serve primarily Black and allied young adults across Los Angeles and Southern California who are seeking community, balance, and purpose outside the noise of everyday life. Our events welcome people of all experience levels — from first-time hikers to seasoned explorers — who want to connect, heal, and grow through nature and culture.
What We Do:
YBO hosts monthly gatherings centered on the outdoors (like hiking, camping, and boating), mental wellness (community check-ins, reflection circles, and healing spaces), and lifelong education (hands-on skill-building, environmental literacy, and creative learning).
Our Values:
✨ Joy & Belonging — cultivating spaces that celebrate Black identity, connection, and joy.
🌿 Healing & Wholeness — prioritizing mental wellness, reflection, and rest.
🌄 Education & Empowerment — encouraging curiosity, skill-building, and lifelong learning.
💫 Community & Collaboration — partnering with local organizations to build access and sustainability.
YBO is currently evolving into a membership-based community with an intentional focus on healing, growth, and impact — all while keeping adventure and joy at the heart of what we do.
