    Caribbean Foundation of Boston Seeks Chief Financial Officer

    About CFOB

    Founded in 1973 by Beulah Providence and a group of Caribbean immigrant women, The Caribbean Foundation of Boston (CFOB) has served the Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan communities for over 50 years. Established with a “neighbor helping neighbor” philosophy, CFOB has grown from a small grassroots effort into a trusted community resource, providing compassionate care, workforce development, and vital support services to hundreds of local residents each month.

    CFOB’s purpose is to prevent unnecessary institutionalization of seniors and individuals with disabilities by helping them remain in their homes with dignity and independence. The organization also provides meaningful employment opportunities and workforce training for community members.

    Impact & Programs

    • Urban Community Homemaking Program – Founded in 1973 by a group of women committed to supporting their community, CFOB provides personal care, home health aide, household management, and childcare services to more than 250 disabled, frail, and elderly residents monthly. Our goal is to prevent unnecessary institutionalization while supporting families with caregiving.
    • Friendly Visitors Program – Offers companionship, errands assistance, and social and emotional support to the lives of elders who often have outlived their relatives or peers. It is run through partnerships with the Senior Companions of Boston and the Massachusetts Association for the Blind.
    • Homemaking & Home Health Aide Training – Over 100 caregivers annually, complete a 75-hour Home Health Aide (HHA) training program that prepares them to provide personal care, companionship, how to teach efficient household management techniques to family members, to help ease the loneliness of their client, and specialized assistance for seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia.     • Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Testimonial of Appreciation Banquet – A 27-year tradition honoring individuals who advance independence for frail and homebound residents while raising critical funds to support CFOB’s mission.

    CFOB has a staff of nine, employs more than 130 homemakers, and has an annual operating budget of approximately $2.5 million. CFOB is overseen by a small Board of Directors comprised of community and business leaders. CFOB’s long-serving Director of Finance will retire from his role upon the hire of the CFO.

    Opportunity Going Forward

    The CFO will have the opportunity to join CFOB at a time of organizational transition. Besides managing all finance and administrative functions for this established nonprofit, working in partnership with the incoming Executive Director, high priorities for the CFO include:

    • Bringing a strategic approach to financial operations, aligning the accounting and finance function with broader organizational goals.
    • Supporting operational decision-making with sound cost accounting and budgeting practices and providing clear, actionable financial information and insights.
    • Understanding the complexity of multiple contracting agencies and the diverse services provided by CFOB, ensuring compliance and maximizing revenue.
    • Defining the structure and efficiency of the CFO role within the organization and addressing the gaps that currently exist in CFOB’s financial practices.

    Profile of the Ideal Candidate

    Credentials & Experience:

    • Five years of senior financial leadership experience at an organization of comparable size, scope, and financial complexity.
    • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, and/or management.
    • Knowledge of federal and state government contracting, accounting, and reporting and third-party billing.

    Skills and Qualities:

    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance with a proven ability to manage an organization’s accounting, finance, and administrative functions with a commitment to develop and implement sound finance and accounting principles.
    • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting with the ability to set priorities, think analytically, solve problems, and make sound decisions.
    • Highly organized, efficient, and capable of assessing the current financial systems and practices, implementing needed changes thoughtfully, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations, and presenting clear financial information to the board.
    • Skilled at bringing a strong human resource lens to work with office staff on day-to-day operations, being supportive of employees, and explaining financial matters clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Consummate team player who ensures finance and administrative functions are in service to staff and clients; able to balance firmness with patience and wisdom.
    • Technology savvy with an understanding of the impact of technology and automation on performance and efficiency along with skilled use of accounting software and Microsoft Office products.
    • Experience with external auditors, compliance management, and regulatory oversight.
    • Able to build connections with clients and community organizations, demonstrating care for both the mission and the staff.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with a starting salary range of $90,000 to $115,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. CFOB also offers a benefits package that includes health insurance (70% paid by the employer and 30% by the employee via payroll deduction), 3 weeks paid vacation, 7 sick days, 8 paid holidays, and a 401K plan. Over time, limited hybrid options may be accommodated.
