We expose anti-consumer practices, challenge the legal frameworks that enable them, and work to build a culture that values true ownership. Through storytelling, advocacy, and public education, we aim to shift both policy and public perception toward a world where consumers have full control over their tech—where buying a product means having the full right to use, repair, customize, and understand it without interference.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Policy Associate to join our team and lead research, documentation, and content creation around technological and policy problems and solutions. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can distill complex issues into accessible materials for lawmakers and the public. You'll be managing cross-functional projects that span both policy research and content creation while building relationships with experts and allies in the consumer rights space. And as an early member of our team, you will play a critical role in developing the policies we pursue and the strategy we implement to achieve our vision.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Documentation

• Conduct policy and technological research on consumer protection and digital ownership issues that will be at the core of FULU’s work
• Review existing literature and conduct basic data analysis to support advocacy efforts
• Leverage relationships with subject matter experts to inform reports and fact sheets

Content Creation & Communication

• Create fact sheets, reports, and blog posts that translate complex legal or technological topics into accessible language
• Produce high-quality written content for lawmakers, media, and public audiences

Project Management

• Manage projects that overlap across policy and YouTube content realms
• Coordinate team-wide projects and other strategic initiatives
• Monitor state legislative proposals related to digital ownership

Strategic Support

• Support organizational priorities through research and analysis
• Collaborate with team members across different functional areas
• Adapt quickly to new projects and opportunities as they emerge

Essential Qualifications

Research & Analysis Skills

• Proven ability to identify reliable sources and conduct thorough research
• Experience reviewing literature and conducting basic data analysis
• Skill in leveraging expert relationships to inform policy positions

Written Communication Excellence

• Outstanding written communication skills with ability to make complex topics accessible
• Experience creating policy briefs, reports, or similar materials for diverse audiences
• Demonstrated ability to distill technical or legal concepts for general understanding

Operational Excellence

• Strong attention to detail with ability to catch and correct errors quickly
• Proven ability to handle large volumes of work in fast-paced environments
• Experience prioritizing multiple projects while keeping all items moving forward

Preferred Qualifications

• Scrappy, solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving
• Interest in learning new skills outside your core expertise when needed
• Strong relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholder groups
• Strategic thinking and sound judgment in balancing competing priorities
• Familiarity with technology and consumer protection issues, particularly Right to Repair
• Working knowledge of privacy, digital ownership, or related policy debates
