Guided by ambitious ten-year Impact Goals, Digital Promise works to ensure historically and systematically excluded learners have access to Powerful Learning experiences, strong educational systems, and pathways to postsecondary credentials that lead to economic mobility and well-being. With approximately 180 employees and an annual budget of $85 million, Digital Promise operates at significant scale while maintaining an entrepreneurial, mission-driven culture.
Digital Promise seeks a strategic and action-oriented Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (VP & COO) to serve as a key partner to the President & CEO and an architect of the organization’s next phase of growth and impact. As one of three Vice Presidents and a core member of the Leadership Team, the VP & COO serves as the organization’s business leader, overseeing strategy implementation, organizational performance, culture, and financial sustainability.
The VP & COO will oversee People & Culture, Finance, Operations, Contracts, Strategy, and Data, Product & IT. This leader will bring a coaching mindset, strong emotional intelligence, and enterprise-wide perspective to align people, systems, and resources in support of Digital Promise’s mission.
Specific areas of responsibility include:
Operational and Strategic Leadership
- Lead implementation of multi-year operational strategies that align organizational infrastructure with Digital Promise’s Impact Goals.
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning, annual budgeting, organizational performance, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Oversee risk management, governance support, operational systems, compliance, and organizational learning initiatives.
Financial Leadership and Organizational Sustainability
- Provide executive oversight of finance, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Strengthen financial reporting, resource allocation, and sustainable business models that support mission growth.
- Ensure strong internal controls, compliance practices, and stewardship of organizational resources.
People & Culture Leadership
- Partner with People & Culture leadership to advance employee engagement, belonging, development, and retention.
- Champion a high-performance culture grounded in collaboration, transparency, accountability, and coaching.
- Support leaders through organizational growth, change management, and evolving workforce needs.
Data, Product, & Technology Leadership
- Guide enterprise-wide technology, product, and data strategy in partnership with the Data, Product & IT team.
- Ensure systems, products, and technical assets are mission-aligned, secure, and user-centered.
- Advance data-informed decision-making and organizational learning across Digital Promise.
Experience, Skills and Qualities

Compensation & Benefits
Salary range is $295,000–$305,000, accompanied by a competitive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, employer-sponsored 401(k), paid time off, and paid parental leave.
Location
Digital Promise employees work remotely across the United States. The VP & COO will travel approximately 20%, including participation in leadership retreats, all-staff gatherings, and organizational meetings throughout the year.
