    2026 Lowenstein Sandler Pro Bono Fellow

    The 2026 Pro Bono Fellow will be a member of the team of the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest for one year. If the fellowship goes well, the person will then cycle into the litigation department, where a commitment of at least two years is preferable. During the fellowship year, beginning in the fall of 2026, the Pro Bono Fellow will maintain an active litigation practice in pro bono matters under the supervision of Center leadership. Matters will include, but are not limited to, impact litigation, immigration, housing, and criminal and youth justice.

    Job Requirements:

      • The Fellow will represent individuals of limited means and organizations that advance civil rights and secure access to justice for marginalized populations.
      • The Fellow will be responsible for conducting legal research and drafting memoranda and briefs in pro bono litigation matters.
      • Depending on the particular matter, the Fellow will also be responsible for interviewing clients and preparing them for trial, taking and defending depositions, and all aspects of discovery.
      • At the conclusion of the yearlong fellowship, if all goes well, the Fellow will join Lowenstein Sandler’s litigation department as an associate.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

    The successful candidate will have been a stellar law student and will be, or will soon become, a member of the bars of New York and New Jersey.

      • Candidates with one or more years in practice or in a judicial clerkship are preferred.
      • Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to and some experience in public interest practice.
      • Candidates must have superior analytic and writing skills, mature professional judgment, and the ability to work well with and earn the respect of a wide range of colleagues.
      • Candidates will also need to show initiative and creativity in their work and manage and complete multiple assignments in a timely manner.

    Office Location: Roseland, NJ (and possibly spend some time in the firm’s New York office as well)

    Schedule: Full time, beginning in the fall of 2026

    Amount of Travel Required: Occasional travel to court, other firm offices, and pro bono-related conferences.

    Salary: The expected salary range for candidates in class years 2025 through 2026 is $225,000 to $235,000. The range provided is the salary that Lowenstein Sandler in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position. Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location. Our benefits package includes coverage options for medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, life insurance, disability, FSAs, 401K, and paid time off.
