    Job Title: Communications and Marketing Director

    Status: W-2 or Contractor

    Location: U.S. remote, pacific time zone preferred

    Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week during standard business hours

    Compensation: $97,500.00 annualized (W-2) Start Date: TBD

    Job Summary

    Communications plays a key role in Equality Labs’ work to produce and amplify content that sheds light on caste oppression, religious fundamentalism, and issues that impact South Asian minorities. The Communications and Marketing Director controls the flow of information between our organization and the public. Alongside managing social media, this hire will lead and develop marketing and public relations strategies, navigate crises and setbacks, and manage broader communications efforts. They will ensure all public-facing information is culturally informed and aligned with South Asian and South Asian American communities, with particular attention to caste-oppressed liberation and movement-building strategies.

    The Communications and Marketing Director works with internal teams to edit, publish and collaborate on content that furthers our reach, globally. They report to the Executive Director

    This role supervises one individual.

    Responsibilities:

    • Implement and develop strategic marketing and communications plan, including working with Development Director to reach fundraising goals especially during giving seasons
    • Deploy communications plan on all messaging tools and platforms, including newsletter, social media, press releases, etc.
    • Maintain Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts; curate, edit, and publish content that promotes social justice and respond to media inquiries
    • Field Inquiries for speaking engagements for the entire EL team that arise from communications
    • Develop and maintain a press list, coordinating media outreach strategy for all events, protests, and creative endeavors of the organization
    • Produce press releases and supervise social media content production alongside the designer creating copy alongside relevant EL staff and working with our designer to create posts, graphics and other digital assets. For example: Digital Security social media placards
    • Manage and cultivate media relations, communications and outreach to organizational partners and publications
    • Implement marketing strategy throughout the Equality Labs’ network of digital platforms, including its website and microsites; troubleshoot technical issues with the support of external technical consultants
    • Support in the launch of public-facing research projects
    • Edit and provide editorial support for Research reports
    • Attend in person team strategy and gatherings to discuss and learn about the work of the teams as needed during this interim period. Travel representing the organization and meeting with internal teams is required on an as needed basis,
    • Project manage, distribute, and market EL’s two podcasts

    Requirements:

    • The application of a feminist, anti-oppression and trauma-informed lens
    • Cultural competency to navigate diverse stakeholders facing multiple kinds of marginalizations
    • 7+ years of experience in marketing and/or communication on the client agency side
    • Solid background in media relations
    • Experience in stakeholder/community and partner engagement
    • Refined, polished, and nuanced verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work remotely across teams
    • An extensive knowledge of the history of South Asian organizing is a plus
    • Knowledge in organizational messaging with an anti-oppression and healing justice lens
    • Experience crafting inclusive public narratives
