Evanston Development Cooperative

The Evanston Development Cooperative (EDC) is a worker-owned cooperative business committed to designing and building more sustainable, just, and inclusive neighborhoods. We are a design-build firm rooted in Evanston, Illinois, focused on green housing with commitments to affordability and equity. We mostly build accessory dwelling units (ADUs), also known as backyard houses, both for homeowners and low-income people through creative financing partnerships. We specialize in all-electric, energy-efficient buildings which do not connect to fossil fuels. We are collectively owned and democratically governed by workers and residents in the community, implementing a vision to put people and community needs before endless growth and profit. A majority of our worker-owners are people of color, given our vision to address the racial wealth gap via collective ownership of a successful social enterprise.
