THE AGENCY

Alameda County, located in the San Francisco Bay Area’s East Bay, is home to more than 1.6 million people and includes cities such as Berkeley, Fremont, and Oakland. As a local government, Alameda County is on the front lines of today’s major policy challenges from adapting to state budget cuts to reducing our contributions to climate change. Headquartered in Oakland, Alameda County’s Office of Sustainability Office is at the frontier of sustainability in the government sector, implementing projects to green Alameda County operations, developing policy to promote innovation, and collaborating with local and national partners.

The Office sits within in Alameda County's General Services Agency, which delivers support services to County departments and agencies so they can fulfill their missions in social service, public protection, and community development. These support services include building construction and maintenance, purchasing, energy, and fleet. We are recognized nationally for our innovative approaches to clean energy, sustainability, and transportation.
