The City of Gary is a mid-sized municipality of 80,000 people located on the south shore of Lake Michigan, 25 miles from downtown Chicago. Founded in 1906 as an industry town by US Steel, the City once had 180,000 residents and a robust local commercial sector. De-industrialization has changed our trajectory and we are currently infusing City Hall with smart, capable, visionary people to make history and transform Gary into an innovative 21st Century city.
