    A Volunteer Guardian ad Litem (VGAL) is a volunteer appointed by the Court to advocate for the best interests of a child who is alleged to have been abused or neglected. In order to do this, the VGAL must investigate the facts of the case, recommend a course of action to the Court, facilitate the resolution of the probelms, and monitor progress toward establishing permanency for the child.

    The VGAL assumes no financial, legal or custodial responsibilities for the child. Their role is limited to gathering and presenting information and speaking on behalf of the dependent child in court.
