    Built to defend the river approach to the Washington, DC, Fort Washington has stood as silent sentry for over 200 years. As technologies advanced so did Fort Washington, from the brick and stone of the 19th century to the concrete and steel of the 20th century.

    Today Fort Washington is a 341 acre National Park unit that includes historic, natural, and recreational areas. It also serves as the headquarters for National Capital Parks East South District. This district oversees Fort Washington Park, Fort Foote, Harmony Hall, and Piscataway Park.
