Acerca de

The Neuroepidemiology Section of the Laboratory of Epidemiology, Demography and Biometry [LEDB], National Institute on Aging conducts epidemiologic research on brain aging and neurologic diseases in aging. Focus is on identifying the interaction between genetic and environmental markers of vascular health, inflammation, cellular nutrition, and oxidation as they relate to brain aging traits; identifying brain aging traits (using bio-imaging, molecular markers and clinical measures) that cluster within and across biologic systems such as the vascular, retinal, auditory, metabolic systems, exploring the role of earlier-life experiences in shaping the trajectory of brain aging, and identifying and testing prevention interventions to reduce the risk for pathologic brain aging. Population-based studies of the LEDB are based on large samples with state-of-the-art measures of risk factors and disease.
