The Community Services Department offers programs and services Monday-Friday, every week of the year barring holidays. The department encompasses two separate buildings on the Civic Campus.
The Senior Center hosts participants 60 years and older and provides a calendar full of scheduled activities in the Center designed to keep seniors actively engaged in their body, mind and spirit. Morning games, coffee and doughnuts, and gathering of friends attracts participants every morning. The Center is a place of activity where everyone knows your name and is accepted for who they are.
Lunch is provided free of charge each weekday with opportunity to make donations. This program is provided by a contractor and is grant funded through the Aging and Disabilities Services department of the Federal Government.
Afternoon trips on the bus include opportunities to shop, exercise and explore the area. Bus trips are but one way that the Community Services Department assists seniors retain their independence as they age in place.
The Community Services Department is also home to the Youth Center. The Youth Center is open to people of all ages and is staffed by the city five days a week. Programs offered in the Youth center include a Tiny Tots program in the morning designed to provide large muscle activity for toddlers while their caregivers remain onsite. As the children play, caregivers are given the opportunity to have coffee and commiserate, encourage and bond with others who understand.
Mid-day programs include exercise for adults, Taco Tuesdays (for purchase as a fundraiser), and an open basketball court.
Afternoon programs are targeted at Middle and High school students with an open gym, organized art or craft and homework help for all ages.
The Youth Center is home to a computer lab that is open to all ages during normal operating hours.
Evening programs include late nights on Monday nights and quarterly Friday night events for families, monthly Bingo that is family centric, monthly paint and sip classes and a variety of classes offered at a nominal fee.
