Waterkeeper Alliance, an international environmental organization, seeks a dynamic, goal-oriented professional to help strengthen and amplify the voice of Waterkeeper Alliance and the Waterkeeper movement.
Position Type: Hybrid (currently 2 days in the office, up to 3 days working from home)
Organizational Overview: Waterkeeper Alliance is a global environmental movement uniting more than 290 Waterkeeper groups worldwide and focusing citizen action on issues affecting our waterways, from pollution to climate change. Waterkeeper groups patrol more than 6 million square miles of rivers, streams, and coastlines across the Americas, Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa. Position Summary: The position is primarily responsible for coordinating components of Waterkeeper Alliance’s advocacy, including collaborating with Waterkeeper groups and Waterkeeper Alliance staff to develop and implement effective campaign plans in alignment with Waterkeeper Alliance’s five-year strategic plan. This role currently reports to the Clean Water Defense Campaign Manager.
Waterkeeper Alliance’s campaigns confront the greatest threats to water quality and communities disproportionately impacted by pollution and climate change, amplifying their voices and advancing clean water protections worldwide.
- Clean Water Defense – Champions policies that reduce toxic pollution, restore water quality, and ensure safe, accessible water for all communities.
- Climate and Safe Energy – Advances policies that reduce climate pollution, protect water from harmful energy development, and promote climate-resilient, nature-based solutions for healthier communities and ecosystems.
- Pure Farms, Pure Waters – Advocates for policies that reduce agricultural nutrient and chemical pollution while accelerating the transition to regenerative farming practices that protect clean water.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate components of the Waterkeeper Alliance’s advocacy campaigns, including collaborating with Waterkeeper groups to implement our five-year strategic plan in collaboration with Advocacy team members;
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships across internal teams to support coordinated implementation of advocacy activities and advance organizational priorities;
- Support campaign strategy development and planning efforts;
- Coordinate the implementation of campaign activities and advocacy initiatives
- Support planning and implementation of advocacy webinars, roundtables, and meetings with policymakers;
- Support the development and dissemination of policy and advocacy tools and resources including but not limited to factsheets, reports, and policy submissions;
- Connect Waterkeeper organizations to advocacy opportunities across the organization’s campaigns;
- Represent Waterkeeper Alliance externally in coalitions, meetings, conferences, and other events;
- Support the advocacy team’s monitoring and evaluation work and the development of performance reports;
- Support the organization’s fundraising goals; and
- Execute additional projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A firm belief that everyone has a right to clean water;
- 1-3 years of relevant experience working on national, regional and/or global policy advocacy campaigns or other community organizing experience;
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Knowledge, experience or interest in water quality or climate issues;
- Familiarity with, or the ability to readily adapt to, the Waterkeeper culture and model;
- Passion for Waterkeeper Alliance’s mission; and
- A positive attitude and sense of humor.
Additional Qualification:
- Fluency or professional working proficiency in a language other than English; French is preferred.

Hiring Salary Range: $50,000-$58,000 annually. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer.
