    The American Booksellers Association (“ABA”) is excited to hire an Education Administrative Assistant to join our team of passionate, collaborative committed individuals who work to support independent bookstores around the country and their work in their communities. This position reports directly to the Director of Education.

    The essential functions of this job include the following:

    • Provides organizational, logistical, and technical support for education team
    • Coordinates relevant data and presenter materials for the creation of all ABA educational content by communicating with panelists and presenters during development of educational content to ensure that all materials are received on a timely basis (i.e. headshots, bios, PowerPoints, handouts, notes, etc.)
    • Coordinates, provides technical support for, and participates in communication, including meetings and calls, with presenters and panelists for all ABA educational content, as well as virtual events
    • Schedule panelist and keynote meetings
    • Create and distribute Education Surveys; compile and present results
    • Create slide presentations for Institutes and Fall Shows
    • Enter content for education programming. Keep content updated.
    • Conduct research to support education content development, program design, and evaluation
    • Update Bookweb.org education resources
    • Post and edit video and podcasts
    • Proof education signage for Institutes
    • Attend both yearly in-person conferences (Winter Institute and Children’s Institute), occasional in-person summer/fall regional shows, and other ABA in-person events/meetings as needed
    • Additional tasks as required
    • Prioritize equity, access, representation and antiracism in all work.

    Required experience and skills include:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Strong time management skills, including handling multiple projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines, and reacting quickly and smoothly to changes.
    • Strong computer skills with a special emphasis on Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Suite, along with basic image and video editing programs.
    • Comfortable with presenting education
    • Comfortable with appearing on public-facing multimedia platforms like short videos and leading virtual webinar education
    • Must be reliable and flexible on short notice.
    • Strong collaboration skills
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Strong ability to prioritize tasks
    • Ability to cold call members and vendors to discuss education needs/resources
    • Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google suite skills
    • Strong ability to work independently with minimal team interaction or supervision
    • Strong organizational and follow through skills
    • Ability to meet deadlines
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity and access
    • Administrative experience
    • Associate degree or equivalent life learning/experience

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    • Close mental and visual attention required to perform work dealing primarily with preparing and analyzing data and figures, using a computer terminal, and/or extensive reading.
    • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Must be able to do repetitive motion of hands or wrists, finger, grasp, handle, or feel; push and pull with arms; reach with arms and/or hands; crouch, bend, or kneel. Occasionally may need to climb.
    • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.

    Location:

    Remote. This position requires domestic travel. 7-10 days twice a year; 3-5 days a few times a year; and occasional ad hoc meetings. This position may also require occasional work on nights and weekends as business needs dictate.

    Compensation:

    $53,000 a year, depending on experience
