    About One To World

For over 50 years, One To World has been turning strangers into neighbors and neighbors into global citizens. Founded in 1977 and designated by the U.S. Department of State as the official Coordinator of Enrichment Programs for Fulbright grantees in the greater New York area, One To World’s mission is both simple and ambitious: the New York metro area welcomes thousands of international students and Fulbright scholars each year — and One To World works to connect as many of them as possible with local communities through meaningful, face-to-face experiences — from dinners in American homes to intercultural workshops in K–12 classrooms. Through signature programs including Global Classroom, community host matching, and a professional membership network spanning over 70 academic institutions, One To World advances global cooperation one relationship at a time. This senior role carries full responsibility for designing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that sustains and expands the organization’s financial base. The Director will lead a team that includes a communications intern, seasoned gala consultant and a seasonal administrative consultant, and will work in close partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to cultivate donor relationships, diversify revenue streams, and build long-term organizational capacity.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive annual fundraising plan aligned with organizational goals
    • Set and track annual fundraising goals; report progress regularly to the Executive Director and Board

    Major Gifts & Donor Relations

    • Support the Executive Director in all aspects of a major gifts program, including donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
    • Oversee the creation, preparation, and execution of individual giving appeals via both digital and direct mail channels
    • Assist the Executive Director in building new donor relationships and maintaining ongoing ones; oversee strategy and operations of cultivation events and campaigns such as the end-of-year appeal

    Grants Management

    • Maintain the organization’s annual calendar of foundation and corporate supporters, including a timeline for proposals and reports
    • Coordinate foundation and corporate grant outreach, including prospect research, cultivation, and stewardship
    • Draft, review, and submit grant proposals; coordinate with programmatic and finance staff as needed; assist with grant budget preparation
    • On an annual basis, meet with programmatic directors to assess areas of funding need, review proposal and report templates for accuracy, and ensure data collected aligns with funder requirements and programmatic logic models

    Special Events & Campaigns

    • Oversee all aspects of the Annual Fulbright Awards Dinner in partnership with the Executive Director, including vendor and consultant management, logistics, staff roles, remarks, collateral, website, and sponsorship acquisition
    • Co-manage the Directors Circle fundraising events and other cultivation events, including the Fulbright Welcome Reception and Conversations with World Leaders series
    • Represent One To World at donor meetings, community events, and networking opportunities

    Board & Leadership Collaboration

    • Support the Executive Director in stewarding the Board of Directors; participate in and report to assigned Board committees
    • Provide a quarterly Development report for Board meetings; lead relevant portions at the Executive Director’s discretion, including previews and reviews of the Annual Fulbright Awards Dinner

    • Ensure all gifts are accurately documented in Raiser’s Edge and that timely acknowledgment and tax receipts are completed
    • Perform reconciliation with the Director of Finance & Administration at least 4–6 times annually or as needed
    • Prepare and send monthly Development newsletters; provide social media content related to Development activities; support preparation of the Annual Report
    • Manage the development budget and perform other related duties as requested by the Executive Director
