Youth Program Assistant Instructor

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Youth Program Assistant Instructor will be responsible for facilitating activities for

MLOV’s After School Program, aimed at youth in grades 6-11 (ages 11-18), in partnership

with other program staff, interns, and/or volunteers. The Youth Program Assistant

Instructor will support the Youth Programs Instructor with the development, growth, and

skill achievement of After School Program participants.

This role is a part-time (8 - 18 hours), temporary position from mid-October 2026 to late

April 2027, with the possibility of extension as a part-time role for the 2027 Summer

Program (June to August 2027). The schedule of this position is in-person, working at least

two days a week (either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday), and up to

four days per week based on candidate availability.

The desired start date for this role is by October 13, 2026. Pay for this role is $20.00 -

$23.00 per hour. This role reports to the Youth Leadership Programs Manager.

ABOUT MANY LANGUAGES ONE VOICE (MLOV)

Many Languages One Voice (MLOV) was founded in 2010 and is currently located in

Petworth in Washington, D.C. MLOV works with and for community members to advocate

for language access, educate about workers' rights, promote civic engagement, develop

youth and adult leaders, and help immigrant families reach their professional goals

through skill-building and workforce programming.

MLOV’s After School Program

MLOV’s After School Program primarily serves first, 1.5, and second-generation

immigrants, mainly from low-income, Spanish-speaking households. The program

focuses on community building, leadership, teamwork, and personal and cultural identity.

Twice a week after school, 6th to 11th grade students participate in lessons that

incorporate socio-emotional skills in fun and engaging ways.

As staff, we prioritize creating a sense of community and belonging, take an empathetic

and assets-based approach, and make an intentional choice to show up for our youth and

community every day. In 2025, over 87% of our students felt like they belonged and

contributed to making the space safe.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Please note this overview may not fully encompass all possible duties, as the work may evolve

over time in response to program and community needs and organizational priorities.

Instruction and Facilitation

• The Youth Program Assistant Instructor will co-facilitate activities for a classroom of
• 15-30 middle or high school youth, in partnership with the Youth Programs
• Instructor, volunteers, interns, and/or other Youth Program staff;
• Use curriculum resources provided by MLOV and/or obtained through independent
• research to co-facilitate engaging, meaningful, and interactive activities for youth;
• Collaborate with other Youth Program staff to maintain and actively cultivate a safe
• and supportive environment for all youth;
• Supervise and lead youth on field trips, in partnership with other staff;
• Mentorship
• Establish rapport with young people who identify as Black, Brown, Indigenous,
• Latino/a, immigrant, and/or English learner;
• As needed, meet in small groups and/or 1:1 with youth to facilitate communication
• and/or remediate conflicts, with support from other staff;
• Be a positive role model and example;
• Administration and Logistics
• Be part of facilitating program orientation for parents and students in October
• 2026, in collaboration with other program staff;
• Assist with maintaining a clean and organized program space, including routine
• program clean-up;
• Assist with meal/snack distribution to program participants;
• Assist with set-up and tear-down before and after program;
• Participate in daily planning and debrief meetings;
• Submit written documentation about student behavior and meetings, as needed;
• Adhere to all program and MLOV organizational policies;

Schedule

• Location: In-person at our office in Petworth
• Days: At least two days a week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday), but up

to four days depending on candidate availability.

• Time: Approximately 3:00-7:30pm (start time can be discussed if needed)

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

You have:

• At least a High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED, HSED, HiSET, or TASC);
• Experience working with youth, preferably middle and/or high school students;
• Experience with Canva, Google Suite, and/or Microsoft Suite;
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

You are:

• Able to facilitate lessons and mentor students in English and Spanish;
• A self-starter, team player, problem-solver, and someone with excellent

communication skills;

• Flexible, adaptable, and interested in making a positive impact in the community;
• Willing to obtain (or already have):
• COVID-19 vaccination
• Current check from DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) Child

Protection Registry (CPR)

• Current check from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal
• Background Check
• Current check from Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Criminal
• Background Check, and
• Current check from National Sex Offender Registry (NSO).

Preferred Characteristics

Ideally, you also have:

• Post-secondary coursework in education, political science, sociology, social work,
• psychology, or related field preferred;
• Professional, educational, or lived experience working with immigrants, low-
• income individuals, and/or youth of color;
• Experience facilitating lessons or activities;
• Personal or professional experience navigating and/or coaching youth through
• post-secondary education and career applications, scholarship and financial aid
• processes, highly preferred;
• Experience in preparing presentations, writing emails, drafting documents, and having
• conversations, and/or making phone calls in a language other than English;
• Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
