    Position: Family Support Coordinator (Bilingual: Spanish-English)

    Supervisor: Associate Director

    Classification: non-Exempt; Hourly, Hybrid

    Compensation: $25-$30/hr

    Hours: 20 hours per week, potential for growth

    Position Summary: As the Family Support Coordinator you will serve on the Family Support Team overseeing all of the Safe Families Circle of Support programing for Spanish speaking families and families in the Bronx. You are people oriented and are known for your encouragement and ability to gather and equip others to meet a shared goal or vision. In this position, our goal and vision is creating extended family-like support for isolated families through a community of devoted volunteers motivated by compassion to keep children safe and families intact. To that end, you will see parents as experts of their families, guiding them quickly and with care through the intake and matching process. You will have an overwhelming desire to support and equip volunteer teams, identifying and providing resources and training to ensure a supportive and successful experience for parents and volunteers alike.

    The Family Support Coordinator oversees and manages the referral and intake of families while nurturing and growing relationships with referral agencies, as well as supporting volunteers as they connect with families. This position is the first point of engagement with Safe Families NYC prospective Spanish speaking volunteers. Responsible for guiding prospective volunteers through the approval process from initial contact to authorization. This includes assisting with info session presentations at churches and coordinating prospective SFFC volunteer interviews.

    Your colleagues would describe you as an effective communicator, able to enthusiastically share your passion for the mission of your work across varying constituents and stakeholders; identifying ways to collaborate and increase quality referrals. You are efficient and effective, but never at the expense of the relationship.

    Core Responsibilities:

    Intake:

    1. Handling incoming referrals from families.
    2. Information gathering and screening. Following up with referrals and screening them according to pre-determined risk thresholds. Being friendly but discerning, obtaining relevant facts and information and building up a picture of the situation. Screening out inappropriate arrangements at an early stage. Liaising with other agencies who may hold relevant information pertinent to the family.
    3. Help parent self-identify targeted goals that lead to family stabilization.
    4. Consult with Family Support Team Supervisor on difficult referrals and determine program “fit”.
    5. Make sure that family referral information is appropriately and accurately entered into the Case Management System.

    Family Coach Supervision:

    1. Responsible for supervising and supporting Family Coach volunteers on all aspects of the Family Friending process, including being available on an emergency, on-call basis.
    2. Ensure Family Coaches help parents set goals and efficiently work to fulfill those goals.
    3. Participate in tracking/reporting of information pertinent to program evaluation.

    Volunteer Vetting:

    1. Fielding questions from potential Spanish speaking volunteers by phone/email, explaining the volunteer vetting process.
    2. Following up with prospective volunteers and walking them through the approval process.
    3. Maintaining accurate documentation throughout the authorization process.
    4. Scheduling & conducting interview assessments with prospective volunteers.

    General:

    1. Help coordinate and lead informational presentations at churches and partner organizations.
    2. Maintain current knowledge pertaining to Safe Families; continue professional development through seminars and conferences.
    3. Participate in all Safe Family staff functions, weekly meetings, and supervision.
    4. Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement activities.

    Qualifications:

    1. Must be willing and able to support the mission of Safe Families.
    2. Lived or professional experience navigating social services and/or child welfare/family preservation.
    3. Fluency in Spanish.
    4. Excellent communication skills conveying both compassion with struggling parents and credibility with referring agencies.
    5. Well-organized and able to prioritize and manage time efficiently and to work autonomously balancing working from the office and home.
    6. Must be available to participate in in-person trainings and events weekends and evenings as necessary.
    7. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
    8. Discreet in dealing with confidential/sensitive information.
    9. Alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection.

    Desired Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following areas: Social Work; Psychology, Education, Nursing, etc. License or LMSW.
    2. Experience collaborating with local faith communities.
    3. Flexibility to respond to a changing environment.

    Screenings:

    The applicant must pass a child abuse and neglect screening (SCR), NYS and FBI fingerprints, and maintain a cleared status throughout employment.
