    About Futures Ignite:

Futures Ignite partners with schools to ensure every student has the opportunity to explore, lead, launch, and persist in bold college and career futures. We work within public high schools to supercharge opportunity. At the heart of our model is relationship-centered, strengths-based college counseling—grounded in personalized guidance, expert matching, and advocacy that empowers every student to pursue meaningful postsecondary paths. In parallel, through our signature Civic STEM Leadership program, hands-on projects, and partnerships across diverse STEM and professional fields, students spark passion, build confidence, and strengthen their college and career pathways. We extend this support into students’ first year after high school through targeted alumni outreach, coaching, and career connections.

    About the Role:

Futures Ignite is seeking a strategic, creative, and mission-aligned Communications and Volunteer Manager to join our growing Development Team. This cross-functional role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of storytelling, digital engagement, and community building. The Communications and Volunteer Manager will lead our organization’s external voice—managing the website, social media, and email communications—while also deepening our impact by expanding volunteer engagement and partnerships.

This fall, Futures Ignite is undertaking an exciting website and collateral redesign in collaboration with a marketing/website consultant. The Communications and Volunteer Manager will play a central role in this project—bringing their ideas and leadership while working closely with the consultants and the Development Team for support and execution. You won’t be alone—we’re building this together.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications Strategy & Execution (60%)

    • Develop and manage an annual communications calendar that aligns with organizational milestones, fundraising campaigns, and program highlights.
    • Maintain and regularly update Futures Ignite’s website to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with our mission and branding.
    • Build and manage Futures Ignite’s email communications, including monthly newsletters, campaign outreach, alumni and volunteer updates, and listserv oversight.
    • Lead the strategy and execution of annual Giving Tuesday, year-end giving, and peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns in collaboration with development consultants and the Director of Development.
    • Manage Futures Ignite’s social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), including content creation, storytelling, and audience engagement.
    • Develop storytelling content that elevates student, alumni, and partner voices and amplifies the impact of our work.
    • Support media and design consultants as needed to produce and elevate campaign and program materials.

    Volunteer Engagement & Partnerships (40%)

    • Build and maintain a volunteer database, tracking engagement and history to support cultivation and stewardship efforts.
    • Develop and manage systems to recruit, coordinate, and recognize individual and corporate volunteers.
    • Plan and facilitate 3–4 “Power Hour” volunteer lunches each year to connect supporters with students and programs in engaging, mission-aligned ways.
    • Coordinate 4 larger volunteer events annually at our two high school partner sites, in collaboration with development and program teams.
    • Cultivate relationships with corporate partners to build a pipeline of group and skill-based volunteers.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with program staff to align volunteer opportunities with student and organizational needs.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of relevant experience in communications, development, marketing, community engagement, or nonprofit management.
    • Demonstrated excellence in written communication, storytelling, and audience engagement.
    • Experience managing websites (Squarespace or WordPress), email platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), and social media scheduling tools.
    • Experience with storytelling, branding, marketing, and savvy nonprofit or other communications is highly desired.
    • Strong project management, organizational, and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
    • Deep commitment to educational equity and to working in partnership with first-generation college students, immigrant families, and BIPOC communities.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

    Preferred:

    • Experience with CRM systems such as Neon, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
    • Familiarity with corporate volunteer engagement or volunteer program design.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.
    • Graphic design or visual content experience is a plus.
