    Descripción

    Position Summary

    The Organizer builds and sustains an effective union presence within assigned institutions by representing members, enforcing the collective bargaining agreement, developing workplace leaders, and mobilizing members around workplace and union priorities. The position serves as a key liaison among members, delegates, union leadership, and management and provides leadership in grievances, negotiations, arbitration preparation, member education, and chapter development.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Represent members at third-step grievance hearings, prepare grievance documentation, investigate facts, interview relevant parties, and present cases effectively.
    • Interpret, administer, and enforce collective bargaining agreements, union policies, and applicable procedures.
    • Lead chapter meetings and maintain regular communication with members and delegates regarding workplace issues and union priorities.
    • Serve as lead negotiator in collective bargaining and support arbitration matters, including case preparation, requests, presentations, and withdrawals.
    • Identify, recruit, mentor, and develop rank-and-file leaders and delegates to strengthen the workplace leadership structure.
    • Plan and support delegate training, leadership development, and new-member orientation programs.
    • Maintain a visible union presence in assigned institutions through regular workplace visits and direct engagement with members, delegates, and management.
    • Establish and support joint labor-management committees to address workplace concerns and promote compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
    • Mobilize members and delegates to participate in union campaigns, committees, meetings, training, and other activities.
    • Distribute union leaflets, bulletins, notices, and other communications throughout assigned institutions.
    • Serve as a liaison among union leadership, delegates, members, and employer representatives.
    • Prepare timely and accurate chapter reports, grievance reports, arbitration materials, correspondence, and other required records.
    • Present matters to the Hearing and Appeals Board, as assigned.
    • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, team meetings, leadership trainings, and delegate trainings.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Prior experience as a union organizer, delegate, activist, or representative in a healthcare or similar institutional setting preferred.
    • Knowledge of grievance handling, collective bargaining agreements, workplace organizing, and labor-management relations.
    • Demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to building union capacity and member participation.
    • Strong verbal, written, listening, facilitation, and presentation skills.
    • Ability to investigate issues, analyze information, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and maintain accurate records.
    • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
    • Ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
    • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, and weekends, as operational needs require.
    • Valid driver’s license required.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to travel regularly among assigned institutions and other work locations.
    • Ability to move throughout facilities, including walking and standing for extended periods during workplace visits, meetings, and union activities.
    • Ability to sit and use a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment for routine administrative work.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic platforms.
    • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials such as files, leaflets, and meeting supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
