Let's Go Coordinator

What We Need

Cascade Bicycle Club is seeking an educator and youth advocate to serve as the next Let’s Go Program Coordinator to support our Let’s Go - Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Program. Reporting to the Let’s Go Manager, the Let’s Go Program Coordinator’s primary focus will be on Cascade’s bicycle and pedestrian safety education programs - Let’s Go and Let’s Go Further - while providing occasional, seasonal support for community events throughout the year that aim to bolster the skills, joy and engagement of our students and their families.

The Let’s Go Program Coordinator will support program implementation, delivery logistics, day-to-day operations, and provide in-class Physical Education teacher support for elementary students (grades 3 to 5) and middle school students (grades 6 to 8), currently operating in Seattle, Edmonds, and Highline School Districts with the possibility of adding in more schools in the greater Puget Sound. This position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills plus navigates multiple relationships with differing stakeholders – such as school district personnel, physical education teachers, and community liaisons, among others. The ideal candidate will have applied knowledge of coordinating the operations and implementation of educational programs, a history of working with youth in diverse experiential learning environments with diverse physical and learning needs, a passion for bicycling and basic understanding of bike safety and maintenance and an understanding of youth development and culturally relevant instruction practices within our communities.

Cascade Bicycle Club, the nation's largest statewide bicycle nonprofit, is 10,000-members, 56-years old, and 58-staff strong, serving bike riders of all ages and abilities throughout the state of Washington. We teach the joys of bicycling, advocate for safe places to ride, and produce community rides and events. Our signature programs include the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic, the Pedaling Relief Project, advocacy for connected trail networks and on-street bike networks in Seattle and across the Puget Sound Region, Free Group Rides, Adult Classes, Let's Go, and the Major Taylor Project.

Let’s Go and Let’s Go Further are in-class active transportation and bicycling education programs

reaching students in grades 3-8. It provides physical education teachers with the resources to implement an in-school bicycle and pedestrian safety program for students grades 3 to 8, providing educators with the opportunity to meet students at their skill level with differentiated lessons. The programs use a train-the-trainer model, state standards aligned curricula, hundreds of bicycles and helmets, and dozens of trailers to deliver the program to roughly 33,000 students per year.

What You’ll Bring:

Duties and Responsibilities

40% Direct Classroom Support

• Assist Physical Education teachers with program implementation onsite at schools in Seattle, Edmonds and Highline School districts as well as other districts in the Puget Sound regions that may be added on in the future. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
  • Working with students in grades 3 - 8 who are learning to ride or are experienced riders.
  • Distributing and assisting with materials, such as helmets and bikes.
  • Facilitating in-class lessons under the supervision of the Physical Education teacher.
• Respond to material requests from teachers, which may include traveling to schools in the Puget Sound area to replenish curriculum materials, such as bikes, helmets, bike locks, curriculum signs and/or posters, etc.

15% Delivery and Logistical Support for the Education Department

• Support our Fleet Team in the delivery of bicycles and equipment by driving cargo vans and towing trailers.
• Assist with the maintenance of the fleet and/or program equipment.
• Help the education department as needed with special projects related to department programs.

30% Curriculum and Program Oversight

• Program quality control including, but not limited to:
  • Material and equipment inventory management.
  • Teacher communication and classroom support scheduling
  • Scheduling deliveries and pick-ups of the bicycle unit from the schools.
  • Communicating with multiple community partners.
• Support the Let’s Go Manager in ensuring the curriculum is viable, current and is being implemented with intentional scope, scale and departmental goals by reviewing and synthesizing teacher and parent feedback.
• Assist in program data collection to support data driven decision making.
• Assist with planning, coordinating and facilitating training programs for educators and staff: confer with management and community partners in order to determine training needs.
• Facilitate ongoing communication with all program partners and constituents.
• Act as a program representative through strategic networking, storytelling and program promotion.
• Evaluate and utilize best practices in technology and other resource management tools to improve programmatic practices.
• Collaborate with the Education Department Leadership Team (Let’s Go - statewide team, Major Taylor Project, Youth Development team, Community Education, Fleet team, Let’s Go Program Manager and Education Director) across program goals and objectives.
• Explore opportunities for program growth through sustainable partnerships, grants, and contracts.

15% Events

• Help out with the Events team as needed in the summer months (End of June - Early August). Specific work will be coordinated by the Events team, but could include driving vehicles/cargo trucks, running rest stops or start/finish lines, supporting packet stuffing parties, etc.
• Respond to and support mission-aligned community education opportunities for summer programming via external partnerships

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to pass a background check for working in public schools.
• Valid WA Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days, and a willingness to learn to operate cargo vehicles with towing trailers.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs in the form of moving bicycles and supplies to/from storage or on/off trucks and trailers.
• A willingness to work with the Fleet Team to learn the basics of bicycle maintenance, such as changing a flat tire.
• Access to reliable personal transportation for commuting to schools throughout Puget Sound that may or may not be accessible via public transportation.
• Knowledge of youth development, adult learners, group development strategies, and successful program structures.
• Experiences in (and passion for) youth development and enrichment (including intellectual, emotional and social growth).
• Experience working with youth, especially between ages of 8 and 14
• Highly organized, detail-oriented and accountable with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• At least one year of program facilitation and coordination experience.
• Ability and desire to work with and learn from a tight cohort of educational colleagues, and demonstrated experience staying flexible in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors occasionally during all seasons.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience teaching bicycling or other healthy activities to youth.
• Experience in multicultural education and cross-cultural community building.
• Commitment to educational equity through courageous youth programming and leadership.
• Bike maintenance skills are a plus, but not required.
• Previous experience operating towing vehicles.
• Lived experience relating to our students and their communities will be honored and valued in this position
• Multi-lingual candidates (e.g. Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Portuguese, etc) strongly desired

JOB DETAILS

Residence in Washington state and the ability to come into the office one to three days a month are required. The workload for this position requires a mix of in-office/work from home (20%) and field-based work (80%). The working hours for the Let’s Go Program Coordinator has some flexibility and will have the ability to occasionally work from home. However, the position may require the candidate to be at a school starting at 8:00 a.m. Typical weekly hours for this position are 40 hours/week. Some weekend/evening work may be required and semi regular weekend work is to be expected in summer months when providing event support.

This hourly position is full-time non-exempt.
