    This is a Level 2 position that can be performed remotely from any location in the U.S. The salary range for this position is $59-63K depending on experience.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The FLA seeks an experienced staff accountant to join our Finance team. The position will provide financial and administrative oversight by managing the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions for the organization, according to established policies and procedures in an efficient, timely, independent and accurate manner. Additional responsibilities to include payroll processing, balance sheet account reconciliations, and international office financial management.

    KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

    • Perform daily and weekly financial transactions involving verifying, classifying, and recording Accounts Payable data, verify procurement and approval/routing.
    • Reconcile the Accounts Payable ledger to ensure all bill and payments are accounted for and properly posted from the AnyBill system to the accounting system, reconcile currency translations.
    • Prepares, posts, verifies and records customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable in the AMS system. Accurate processing of credit/debit memos and refunds.
    • Generate customer invoices, with direction from Innovation, Agriculture and Investigations teams.
    • Perform weekly review of association management system and donation pages; record revenues to proper accounts and programs.
    • Understand expense/revenue accounts and cost centers.
    • Prepare necessary journal entries to record accounting transactions into accounting system.
    • Reconcile Monthly balance sheet and work papers.
    • Process semimonthly payroll through external payroll processor, with direction from HR; perform payroll allocation and month-end journal entry.
    • Answer contractor, vendor, customer, and employee inquiries.
    • Prepare, process, and oversee distribution of Form 1099-NEC and 1099-Misc at year-end.
    • Support the year-end audit process by producing required schedules.
    • Support accounting system overhaul and implementation.
    • Other accounting duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or postgraduate accounting/finance coursework.
    • 3-5 years work experience ideal; non-profit experience a plus.
    • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills and a keen attention to detail.
    • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; accounting software experience required.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in a predominantly remote environment.
    • DC/Maryland/Northern Virginia geographic location preferred.
