Founded in 2004, Kitsap Immigrant Assistance Center (KIAC) envisions a community where everyone, regardless of where they were born, has fair and equitable access to justice and opportunity. Based in Bremerton, KIAC provides families across the West Sound region with wraparound legal and social services that support stability, safety, and long-term community wellbeing.

KIAC’s work includes immigration legal services, family support services, youth and family programs, medical and dental access support, tax assistance, rent and emergency support, and small business assistance. Through community partnerships and culturally responsive services, KIAC works alongside immigrant communities to navigate complex systems, advocate for their rights, and build collective power.

Position Summary

The Family & Youth Program Specialist supports the well-being and self-determination of families and youth through direct services, community education, and program coordination. This position works directly with youth, adults, and families through educational workshops, community-building activities, resource navigation, outreach, and advocacy initiatives.

The Specialist plays a key role in implementing programs that increase access to resources, strengthen community connections, and advance immigrant rights. This includes supporting youth and family programming, coordinating community education efforts, and contributing to outreach and advocacy initiatives. Program goals are to ensure community members–especially immigrant and refugee families–have access to programming opportunities and resources that promote wellbeing, self-determination, community connection, leadership, and meaningful participation. This position coordinates a wide range of services and events, which may include emergency family planning, family/youth outings, workshops, and talking circles.

What You'll Be Walking Into

This role joins KIAC's Family Services team during a period of continued program growth and community engagement. The Family & Youth Program Specialist will help strengthen existing youth and family programs while also responding to emerging community priorities. The role offers opportunities for relationship-building, program development, and direct community impact.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development & Planning

• Collaborate closely with the Program Director to identify community priorities and opportunities through ongoing relationship-building, participant feedback, and community partnership.
• Assist in designing curricula, workshops, leadership opportunities, and community education initiatives.
• Support the evaluation and continuous improvement of programs through participant feedback, data analysis, and community input.
• Identify emerging needs and recommend new program opportunities and partnerships.

Family & Community Programs

• Work closely with the Program and Advocacy Director to develop, implement, and evaluate family-centered educational, leadership, and community-building programs that respond to emerging community needs.
• Coordinate and facilitate educational workshops, support groups, community events, and other programming for immigrant adults and families.
• Support community education initiatives on topics such as rights, civic engagement, health access, financial literacy, digital literacy, transportation, and other community-identified needs.
• Build relationships with community members and support meaningful participation in programs and events.
• Assist with event planning, logistics, volunteer coordination, and participant engagement.
• Assist with outreach efforts to engage community members in programs and events

Youth Program Coordination

• Work closely with the Program Director to design, implement, and continuously improve youth development programming that promotes leadership, belonging, educational growth, civic engagement, cultural connection, and community participation.
• Lead the implementation and coordination of KIAC's youth program.
• Develop and facilitate youth leadership, educational, cultural, and recreational activities.

• Track youth program progress and participation

Resource Navigation & Family Programs Support

• Provide direct support to families and youth through resource navigation, referrals, and program participation
• Conduct intake, resource navigation, referral, and follow-up while supporting community members in identifying their goals, strengths, and priorities.
• Provide support during walk-in hours and throughout the week to assist clients with accessing services including housing, food, clothing, employment, resume building, and public benefits.
• Assist with family safety and immigration preparedness, including supporting clients in completing Power of Attorney documentation.
• Maintain accurate records, client notes, and service documentation.
• Collaborate with staff across programs to provide holistic support to community members.

Grant and Contracts Implementation, Reporting, & Evaluation

• Support implementation of grant-funded activities across family and youth programs.
• Collect and maintain program data and participant information.
• Assist with grant reporting, outcomes tracking, and evaluation activities.
• Prepare program summaries, success stories, and impact reports.
• Ensure documentation and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
• Collaborate with the Development & Communications team on social media outreach and storytelling for events and programs.

Other Responsibilities

• Meet regularly with the Family Services team and participate in staff meetings.
• Collaborate on organization-wide initiatives, committees, advocacy efforts, and community events that align with the organization’s mission.
• Perform other duties as needed to contribute to the overall success of the organization’s mission.

Required Qualifications

• Fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken).
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and database entry/client management systems
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must also have vehicle insurance per Washington state law.
• Ability to pass a background and driving record check indicative of the position requirements.
• Available for occasional evening or weekend events.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in social work, public health, community organizing, or nonprofit program coordination.
• Experience working with immigrant, refugee, and multilingual communities.
• Experience facilitating adult education, community workshops, youth programs, or family support services.
• Knowledge of community resources and social service systems.
• Experience with case management, resource navigation, or community outreach.
• Experience with grant-funded programs and reporting.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches and issues impacting survivors of gender-based violence, particularly within immigrant communities.
• Familiarity with Mam (Guatemalan language) or a basic understanding of Mam, with the ability to communicate key information

Physical and Emotional Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly required to be both stationary and mobile; occasionally lift up to 35 lbs; communicate and manage workflows in person, over the computer and via phone; drive a vehicle to additional events or meetings.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to discuss and engage with issues related to lived trauma and the immigrant experience.

This position is primarily in-office work with some hybrid flexibility (approximately 10-20% remote). Additional travel in surrounding regions for events and meetings may be required occasionally. This position regularly interacts with clients, community members, and partners.
