Job Summary:
The College Corner Staff will work with Family Source Center (FSC) students to assist
them with individualized assistance to help them learn new concepts and complete assignments. College
Corner staff will work directly with families to help them to reach their educational goals.
Reports To: FSC Youth Lead Case Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
♦ Homework Assistance: College corner staff will assist students with homework, projects, test
preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks.
♦ Concept Comprehension: College corner staff will work with students to help them understand key
concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
♦ Teaching Strategies: College corner staff will teach skills to improve academic performance,
including study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions.
♦ Subject Expertise: College corner staff will demonstrate academic best practices for specific
subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics.
♦ Teaching Materials: College corner staff will develop and distribute teaching materials to supplement
classroom lessons, such as study guides.
♦ Progress Tracking: College corner staff will conduct practice tests to track progress, identify areas of
improvement, and set goals for each student.
♦ Feedback and Communication: College corner staff will provide positive and constructive feedback
to students and communicate progress to parents and teachers where appropriate.
♦ Connection Building/Mentoring: College corner staff will build meaningful connections with
students from diverse backgrounds.
♦ Flexible Instruction: College corner staff will instruct students both in person and over video chat.
♦ Psychological Development: College corner staff will serve as a mentor who goes beyond tutoring;
they will also support the mentee’s psychological growth.
♦ Meetings: Each college corner staff will have to participate in quarterly meetings. They will also have
to complete a needs based assessment training and an active listener training through the
organization.
Requirements:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must support Jenesse’s mission and philosophy. Must have
good communication skills. Must be able to function within a multicultural, multi-ethnic setting as part of a
multi-disciplinary team. Must show initiative and ability to work with little supervision. Must have proof of
US citizenship or authorization to work, as well as reliable transportation, valid California driver’s license,
and proof of state-required insurance.
Salary Range: $18.00 - $21.00 Hour
