Who We Are
Established by Black and Latina activists in 1984, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) is NYC’s only culturally specific organization with a mission to address domestic and sexual violence within Latine communities. We provide intensive support and services to 3,500+ survivors and children every year and reach 10,000+ community members through community events and preventive education workshops. We are dedicated to developing innovative programs that meet the complex needs of our diverse community and that align with our organizational values.
What We Offer
As an organization led by and for people of color and survivors of violence, we are deeply committed to our team’s wellness. We seek to create a supportive environment by offering: unlimited PTO; flexible schedules; a hybrid workplace policy (this role is expected to work in-person 2-3 times per week); health benefits coverage up to 90% for staff and their families; 403(b) retirement plans; a staff wellness committee; ample professional development opportunities; time to connect and laugh together and more. We encourage input from team members to help us shape an affirming and uplifting workplace.
What Makes a Great Match
This role is a great opportunity for a person eager to apply and grow their outstanding fundraising skills in the service of social justice. The role provides hands-on experience across multiple facets of fundraising, including donor stewardship, data management, event planning, and online campaigns and communications.
The development team is growing, energetic, and dynamic. This is a great fit for someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude and is ready to roll up their sleeves and work efficiently, responsibly, and with flexibility and independence. This role collaborates closely with the entire VIP organization - program staff, administrators, and the board of directors. Being a team player with strong communication skills and good judgment is essential for success.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the selected candidate will contribute high-level strategic direction and manage key development activities, including event design and execution, identification of new individual donor prospects, pipeline development, and crafting of persuasive messaging. This role manages an annual fund of approximately $650,000 that we seek to grow to a $1M+ fund. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, communicative, strategic, excited about fundraising, and ready to apply expertise across diverse initiatives to drive impact.
To successfully fill this role, a candidate must be committed to serving the interests of low-income people and fighting gender-based violence. Familiarity with these fields is a plus. The Director of Individual Giving is expected to model the organization’s values and contribute to a warm and welcoming culture.
