We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equality, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, youth development, healthy aging, mental health and wellness, English classes for adult immigrants, community centers, and the arts.

    The Grants and Claims Manager will oversee the day-to-day supervision of a portfolio of grants and foster a strong working relationship with the associated program managers and staff.

    Responsibilities:

    • Supervise assigned grants accounting staff; monitor and ensure grant fiscal deliverables are met within the deadlines set by donors and ensure timely submission of financial claims and funder reports
    • Prepare and review internal and external reports, including budget to actual reports and claims to government agencies and private funders
    • Partner with program managers, development and fiscal staff on the financial management of grants and proposals
    • Establish and update grants management processes and controls as needed to ensure compliance with budgetary best practices and donor restrictions
    • Receive and review grant agreements for terms and conditions, donor-imposed restrictions, and deliverable/reporting dates
    • Manage, update, and maintain digital file system of all grant documents (e.g., narratives, financials, agreements, amendments and reports)
    • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget
    • Meet with Program Directors on a regular basis to review budgets together and identify modifications if needed
    • Become a power user and assist in the increased and improved utilization of our general ledger system and identify training opportunities for accounting staff
    • Manage and support monthly financial close activities, ensuring timely reconciliation of grant related accounts and proper recording of revenue and expenses.
    • Support and assist with contract and agency-wide audit preparation
    • Assist in the preparation of agency-wide and program specific allocation methodologies
    • Execute other assignments as requested by management

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in accounting, finance or related field
    • Must have a minimum of 5 years of progressive grants management and accounting experience
    • At least 3 years' experience supervising staff preferred
    • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, Federal, State & City regulations and nonprofit accounting requirements
    • Self -directed and motivated, able to manage multiple complex assignments and meet deadlines
    • Must be flexible and willing to adjust work schedule as necessary
    • Must be comfortable collaborating across departments and working in teams
    • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills; able to multi-task, strong follow­ through skills and detail oriented
    • Strong knowledge of accounting software programs (lntacct experience preferred)
    • Advanced Excel skills

    Hours: Full time, Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, 35 hours per week, Hybrid Schedule
