Mobility Mentoring Coach

Position Summary

The Mobility Mentoring Coach will primarily support participants and further establish our Mobility Mentoring Program. This role will provide participants with support to acquire resources, skills, and sustained behavior changes necessary to promote their economic independence. Mobility Mentoring is a coaching model created by EMPath, a Boston-based nonprofit that focuses on disrupting poverty through direct services, advocacy, research, and community network. Mobility Mentoring has four parts: coaching for economic mobility, Economic Mobility Bridge, goal setting, and recognition. Find more information here: https://empathways.org/approach/mobility-mentoring. Our food bank is in the early stages of establishing our Mobility Mentoring Program into our services. This role plays a critical role in being the primary coach for participants and supporting our journey to fully establish this program. This coaching role will provide 1-on-1 support to participants and requires demonstrated experience communicating with and developing trusting relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. A basic understanding of motivational interviewing, affirmations, reflective listening, and other coaching practices are vital to succeeding in this role. This position requires flexibility around participants’ schedules to ensure adequate engagement from participants. This role will work alongside the Community Connector Program Manager to continuous improvements to better meet the needs of participants.

Key Responsibilities

Support program participants through established Mobility Mentoring Coaching model

• Meet 1-on-1 with participants primarily in-person, with virtual option depending on need
• Maintain a caseload of participants; current caseload is about 4 participants with plans to expand to 30 participants
• Document detailed assessments and meeting notes for each participant
• Build trusting relationships to create goals and ensure goal attainment
• Manage meeting schedule, meeting regularly once or twice per month with each participant
• Provide limited case management to facilitate goal attainment

Support program development for continuous improvement

• Track and maintain participant progress through ‘Goal Action Worksheet’ and ‘Economic Mobility Bridge’ assessments
• Assist in recruiting participants from pool of food bank customers, identifying interested individuals
• Identify new community partners to better support participants
• Conduct annual participant satisfaction survey
• Coordinate future group learning workshops in collaboration with community partners to meet participant needs
• Collect narratives or compile data for future funding opportunities
• Embed principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the program

Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members

• Collaborate with Community Connector team members to ensure community resource sharing
• Communicate use of meeting room with team members to prioritize program participants
• Promote Mobility Mentoring Program with food bank customers engaging in Community Connector services
• Provide customer feedback to supervisor and discuss solutions when appropriate
• Discuss continuous improvements to program with supervisor
• Attend internal and external training opportunities, including monthly all-staff trainings

Qualifications/Knowledge Requirements

• Commitment to overall organization mission and values related to food access and community empowerment
• High emotional intelligence with the ability to maintain a generosity of spirit and positive attitude in an environment that may challenge your personal norms; models calmness for participants
• Work experience in direct service role at a human services organization
• Experience working with individuals/families to meet their needs
• Basic understand of motivational interviewing, affirmations, reflective listening, and other coaching practices
• Self-starter with ability to work independently and proactive communication
• Excellent organization skills, self-motivated, and self-directed learner
• Flexible workstyle with ability to shift and manage multiple responsibilities
• Commitment to undoing institutional racism and building cultural competence
• Experience in trauma-informed practices and de-escalation strategies
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Related Field, minimum 2 years of case management, and/or similar lived experience in social/human services in Seattle/King County.
• Comfortable in Microsoft Office software and interested in learning more about other data collection programs
• Ability to speak/read/write English plus a second language is preferred

Hours

This is a part-time, 15 - 20 hour per week position. While much of the work occurs Monday through Friday, the position is flexible based on the needs of participants.

Salary & Benefits

This is an hourly position at $38 per hour. Provided benefits include an employer contributed SEP IRA, an annual professional development budget, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
