Founded in 1968, YES provides opportunities to develop confidence and leadership skills, as well as preparing for college and career opportunities through participation in outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, biking, and track & field. Over 1,200 youths ages 6-18, participate in year-round programs: Operation Snowsports, Outdoor Adventure, and YES Academy with 150 adult volunteers to support the programs each year.     About the Position

    The Teen Program Coordinator will be working with 9th & 10th grade students in the Leadership Corps High School Program. This position will support youth year-round by facilitating workshops, volunteer projects, and activities focused on leadership development. Additionally, the Teen Program Coordinator will have a unique opportunity to use YES offered outdoor programming to reinforce lessons learned in workshops. The Teen Program Coordinator will be the primary liaison for middle school YES Kids youth to conduct outreach, promote programs, and assist with enrollment in Leadership Corps. This is an in-person, salaried position directly supervised by the Teen Leadership Program Manager.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with program and outreach staff to develop relationships with Dorchester, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, and Roxbury middle and high schools to recruit youth participants
    • Actively perform year-round outreach, assist with applications, and implement activity curriculums for Leadership Corps and strategic partner programs with local high schools
    • Provide youth with one-on-one support: facilitate goal setting, benchmarks, support transition from YES program participant to youth leader and from middle school to high school student
    • Implement best-practices in youth development and group & behavior management support
    • Create a safe and welcoming environment for youth to try new activities and build confidence, including biking, hiking, paddle sports, swimming, rock climbing, etc.
    • Assist with administrative tasks such as taking and entering outreach data and program attendance, creating attendance and other sign-in sheets, and creating newsletters and reports as required
    • Partner with community stakeholders that will provide opportunities and support for YES’ programming
    • Communicate with parents and guardians and work with the Program Manager and Director of Programs & Operations to address any safety concerns
    • Build trusting relationships, ensure the safety of participants, and engage youth and staff
    • Supervise Leadership Corps in the YES Rental Shop with equipment maintenance, shop duties, fittings, and volunteer nights
    • Co-facilitate and coach youth during YES offered outdoor weekday or weekend programming and training experiences.
    • Lead Outdoor Adventure and Operation Snowsports programs where Leadership Corps teens serve as volunteers or staff
    • Engage in Boston Afterschool & Beyond attendance tracking, surveys, and outcome reports
    • Work with the internal YES Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to plan and oversee leadership opportunities for YES Teens
    • Lead scheduled activities during summer programming, including overnight residential camp opportunities
    • Prepare and reset space for each program day
    • Perform other duties as requested or assigned
    • Ability to work on scheduled weekends and nights is necessary

    Requirements

    • College Degree or equivalent experience required
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience leading or volunteering with youth programs for teenagers in an outdoor, camp, school, or similar setting including but not limited to the following activities: biking, hiking, paddle sports, rock climbing, etc.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and interact with a diverse population including adult and youth staff, youth participants, volunteers, parents, and partners
    • Knowledge of youth development and group management techniques appropriate to high school populations
    • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time
    • Must be 21 years of age with a valid Driver’s License; and ability and willingness to drive a 12-passenger van
    • CPR/First Aid required (training will be provided)
    • CORI-SORI Background check will be administered
    • Interest or experience in Snow Sports, Paddle Sports, Rock Climbing preferred

    Compensación

    • 3 weeks vacation for 1st year. After 3 years of employment, 4 weeks of vacation.
    • 12 paid holidays.
    • 1 sick day per month accrued.
    • YES pays for 75% of family or individual health and dental insurance. Plus a $1,000 (individual) or $2,000 Health Reimbursement Account for insurance holders.
    • 401k Plan - After 3 months, an individual can enroll and YES matches up to 4% of the individual's contribution.
    • Flexible schedule with the opportunity to stay active and be outdoors!
