Note: This role is in person at the Montgomery County OIC and ACANA campuses to support programming needs and local operations.
Montgomery County OIC (MontCo OIC) and the African Cultural Alliance of North America (ACANA) seek an experienced construction professional and NCCER-certified instructor to serve as Lead Construction Trades Instructor (NCCER Core). This role combines hands-on construction training with classroom instruction to prepare trainees for NCCER credentials and careers in the skilled trades. The Lead Instructor reports to the Site Director.
The salary for this role is $60,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience.
The anticipated start date for this position is September 21, 2026.

Responsibilities
This position is designed for a construction professional with significant field experience who is ready to bring that expertise into a workforce training environment. You will:
- Deliver hands-on and classroom-based NCCER Core construction training at both the MontCo OIC campus (1101 Arch Street, Norristown) and the ACANA campus (5530 Chester Ave, Philadelphia) via a rotating schedule for the duration of the course.
- Teach and demonstrate NCCER Core competencies, including construction safety, construction math, hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging, communication skills, employability skills, and material handling.
- Provide day-to-day instructional leadership for the Core program, including coordination with the Instructional Assistant, preparation of instructional materials and hands-on activities, and communication with the Training Program Director regarding trainee progress, instructional needs, and compliance concerns.
- Administer/proctor NCCER module tests and evaluate required performance profiles in accordance with NCCER policies and within the instructor’s approved craft/title area.
- Lead and supervise hands-on construction lab activities, demonstrations, and skills practice while ensuring tools, equipment, PPE, and training areas are prepared, maintained, and used safely.
- Maintain the integrity, security, and confidentiality of NCCER testing and performance evaluation processes.
- Continuously enhance technical instructional delivery and presentation skills.
- Complete and submit required attendance, learner progress, module testing, performance profile, and other training documentation accurately and timely in accordance with NCCER Accreditation Standards and organizational procedures.
- Be punctual and dependable in conducting sessions and preparing them in advance, including preparing materials and the classroom for activities.
- Work closely with the Instructional Assistant on days when instruction, lab practice, and soft-skills activities are divided between staff.
- Engage with student data within the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Utilize differentiated instructional techniques to address diverse learning styles, including classroom lectures, hands-on activities, and demonstrations.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes respect and collaboration.
- Engage, coach, and guide trainees toward personal and professional goals.
- Support trainee soft-skill development.
- Assist with organizational efforts as needed, including outreach, community partnerships, and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the selected LMS, Google Workspace, MS Office, internet navigation, and electronic communication.
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic and industry-specific math skills.
- Attend professional development as required by MontCo OIC.
- Receive and implement feedback from MontCo OIC staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- NCCER Certified Instructor.
- At least three (3) years of hands-on experience in construction, with documented qualifications sufficient for approval to teach NCCER Core.
- Current NCCER Certified Instructor credential, or ability to meet NCCER instructor qualification requirements and complete the NCCER Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP) before independently delivering NCCER training.
- Reliable transportation for travel to MontCo OIC and ACANA campuses.
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
- Authorized documentation to work in the United States.
- Ability to pass criminal background checks as required.
