    Job Title: Campaigns Director

    We are looking to hire: A detailed strategist who will draw upon their previous work experience to drive change and build power for Maine’s pro-environment and pro-democracy movements using innovative advocacy and organizing tactics. The ideal candidate will be skilled at building both a strategy and team to win. They will understand Maine’s political lay of the land and how to operate successfully within it. They will be a natural relationship builder who can serve as a resource to our developing team members and represent our organization to a diverse group of stakeholders and supporters.

    Primary Responsibilities: This person will design and implement electoral, issue advocacy, and public education campaigns to protect the environment, democracy and our climate future. This role is designed to: build political power by electing people at the state level who will champion environmental stewardship and; expand support and create momentum to defend, pass, and implement our policy agenda.

    Job Description: The Campaigns Director will manage the electoral campaigns of MCV’s affiliated PAC — Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund (MCVAF). This includes working closely with staff and members of the PAC Advisory Committee to plan and implement MCVAF’s independent expenditure programs.

    In addition, the Campaigns Director will develop and lead issue advocacy campaigns to advance progress on MCA/MCV’s core priorities, including ensuring access to clean water, building a just climate transition, conserving land for people and wildlife, helping to recognize sovereignty for the Wabanaki Nations, and cultivating a healthy, accessible democratic system.

    Activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Work with staff and PAC Advisory Committee to develop and manage MCVAF’s independent expenditure programs, including identifying key races and creating cutting edge, efficient and winning campaign plans at the state level.
    • Work collaboratively with staff and board to build and execute multi-year issue campaign plans for top-tier policy priorities, holding equity at the center of our work.
    • Lead Mainers for Offshore Wind – an inclusive state coalition committed to developing a shared understanding of the climate, environmental, economic, and community impacts of offshore wind; coordinating with regional partners; and organizing for collective action – and represent MCA/MCV at the regional level in New England for Offshore Wind.
    • Work with the Legislative Director to connect campaigns with lobbying strategy to pass state and federal policies.
    • Develop strong working relationships with, and listen to and learn from, critical stakeholders including local communities, Wabanaki leaders, environmental advocates, labor unions, business and industry, and state government.
    • Contribute to informing, shaping, and implementing the work of Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition, a partnership of 39 environmental, conservation, and public health organizations convened by MCA.
    • Communicate policy and electoral priorities and achievements to both internal and external partners and audiences, including through media interviews and presentations.
    • Carry out all of the responsibilities listed above in accordance with the mission statement, goals, and philosophy of MCA/MCV/MCV Action Fund.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Desired Abilities and Knowledge:

    • Experience working on political campaigns and/or planning and implementing local, state, or national issue campaigns or similar strategic initiatives centered in equity and justice.
    • Understanding of Maine’s political and advocacy landscape.
    • Experience in developing policy positions and related materials, working with partners, developing goals, strategies and tactics, and leading inclusive, collaborative processes that achieve results.
    • A strong commitment to and demonstrated understanding of environmental issues, climate action, democracy, racial justice, and the missions of MCA/MCV, and their potential to engage the public.
    • Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking and planning and comfort adjusting strategies and tactics based on the fast-moving nature of issue and electoral campaigns.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to develop relationships with individuals representing different backgrounds.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and experience and comfort with public speaking, facilitating meetings, developing clear agendas, and helping groups navigate productive conflict.
    • Ability to work with diverse constituencies, including coalition partners, business leaders, government agencies, and the general public.

    Salary: The annual salary for this position ranges from $80,000 to $90,000. Salary will be determined based on relevant experience, education, and skills directly related to the role

    Position Type: This is a full-time, at-will, exempt position. Reports to the Executive Director.

    Location: Augusta, Maine. Maine Conservation Voters, Maine Conservation Alliance, and the Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund (MCA/MCV/MCVAF) have a physical office in Augusta. This position requires being fully present, in-person, at the State House during the legislative session and can be hybrid when the legislature is not in session.
