The Grants Manager plays a critical role in Covenant House Greater Washington's fundraising strategy by leading all grant-related functions—from identifying and writing proposals to managing reporting and compliance requirements. This role oversees private, public, and religious-based grant funding opportunities and works cross-functionally with Development, Programs, and Finance teams to ensure that grant activities align with organizational priorities and meet funder expectations. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, skilled collaborator, and detail-oriented project manager who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Grant Writing & Proposal Management

      • Research and identify new funding opportunities across government, foundation, and faith-based sectors.
      • Develop and write high-quality, compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry.
      • Coordinate proposal development, including data collection, narrative drafting, and budget creation, in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
      • Review and interpret RFPs to align proposals with grantor priorities and CHGW’s mission.

    Grant Administration & Reporting

    • Maintain an up-to-date calendar of deadlines for grant proposals, renewals, and required reports.
    • Ensure timely submission of all grant materials, including interim and final reports.
    • Reconcile grant revenue and expenses in coordination with the Finance department.
      • Maintain accurate records in the donor database (CRM) and other internal tracking systems.

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Meet regularly with Development, Finance, and Program teams to align funding priorities and track progress toward grant goals.
    • Assist in developing organization-wide funding strategies and participate in annual revenue planning.
    • Support cultivation and stewardship efforts by coordinating site visits and funder communications.
    • Attend community events and funder meetings to represent CHGW and foster donor relationships.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) and at least 3 years of experience in grant writing or fundraising.
    • Proven track record of securing funding from foundations, corporations, and/or government agencies.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
    • Experience working with CRM databases (EveryAction preferred).
    • Knowledge of nonprofit operations, especially in human services or youth-focused programming.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across departments and with diverse external partners.
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel).

    Preferred

    • Experience with federal and/or state grant compliance and reporting.
    • Familiarity with issues related to youth homelessness or vulnerable populations.
